1. Hi Damien, First of all I have to say that first impressions of Audirvana Plus are very impressive. Compared to Bitperfect, I find it has more clarity and has more soundstage depth to the presentation while still sounding natural. I just downloaded the latest version last night(1.1.12). I am having a bit of an issue though when switching resolutions from 44.1 to 96, for example. I can see the track playing but have no sound output. I have no issues when playing directly from Audirvana. The problem arises with itunes integration. My workaround right now is to uncheck 'hog mode' and then start to play the other resolution file, stop it, check 'hog mode' again and it plays fine after that. However changing to another resolution I have to do the same thing again. My current dac is a Zodiac Gold with Mac OS 10.6.8 and 8GB RAM. I have tried playing around withe different settings in A+ but for some reason it seems to have an issue only when switching resolutions. Any suggestions? Phil
2. I can now confirm that 64 bit mode does detect the Zodiac Gold now. I ran the "Repair Disk Permissions" to fix it.
3. I just upgraded to itunes 10.4 tonight. After re-booting and booting up in 64 bit mode, I discovered that the OS which is still Snow Leopard did not detect my Zodiac Gold dac. After troubleshooting I discovered that if I reboot in 32 bit mode, it would detect the dac fine. Has anyone else had a problem detecing their dac in 64 bit mode?
4. Confirmed integer mode now working on db Audio Labs Tranquility SE and Zodiac Plus
5. I can confirm as well that the latest driver is working for me on a mac mini with snow leopard
6. Exellent informative video Chris.

If I am just converting WAV files to AIFF, is there a benefit to using MAX vs. iTunes?
7. When I started this thread I had no idea it would receive the response it has. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but the point of the thread was not to start a discussion on cables and whether one can hear a difference or not. That discussion could go on till the end of time and I prefer to spend my life enjoying the music in that time frame. Obviously I do hear a difference between USB cables and I was looking to purchase a USB cable from Robert from Ridge Street Audio in the next couple of weeks. I was looking for people's opinions on other manufacturers' cables in comparsion. It's difficult to spend hard earned money for every single thing out in the audio world so if anyone does have experiences with other USB cables, feel free to chime in here!
8. Thanks Lizard_Ling. Can you elaborate on what the differences between the cables were?
9. I currently have a Belden gold plated USB cable from my mac mini running to a Bel Canto USB converter. Just wondering if anyone has tried a higher priced USB like the Poiema from Ridge Street or the Axis/Polestar from Locus?
10. Keep in mind that "musical" is a pretty subjective term and it is my ears only. However when I mean musical, I mean a warmer smoother more analog sound
11. I think it depends on the resolution of your system. I had a Sound Professionals glass cable using a Belkin mini toslink adaper and the sound was a bit harsh and unrefined. I switched to a Sys Concepts mini toslink cable and the sound improved. Smoother but still not that musical. Tried a Belkin toslink which I didn't think much of with the mini toslink adapter and found it more musical and more smooth than the other cables. That's why I'm trying the optocoupler. At some point I will try the USB route and see if that makes a differenance again.
12. I'm getting a Van Den Hul Optocoupler toslink cable arriving this week for my Mac Mini optical out
13. Hey Chris,

Have you had a chance to compare the Bel Canto USB converter to the Trends USB 10.1 converter that you just reviewed? I'm assuming the Bel Canto is better since it's based on the TAS1020 chip vs. the 2704 on the Trends? If so, could you elaborate on the differences.
