  1. Hi everyone, While listening to a particular CD on my setup (apple mac mini/Itunes /firewire/Mytek Stereo 192 DSD Preamp/HD 25 1-II Headphones) with the sample rate set to 192 kHz I perceived cuts in the audio stream at certain points (always the same - i.e. at 00:00:40 track n) the audio stops for a second, similar to what you get when playing a scratched CD. I then played the CD with all of the available sample rates (besides 192 kHz) and noticed that there were no audio cuts at 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz but the cuts remained at 88.2, 96 and 176.4 kHz (I repeated the test with the upsampling function turned ON without any difference, and also with another player -VLC). In order to confirm that it was the Mytek, I repeated the same tests with another converter (apogee duet FW interface) and while the duet 1 doesn’t go up to 192 kHz, when I played the CD at 88.2 and 96 kHz it sounded ok (without cuts). What could be the reason behind the cuts or skips? Why is the Mytek DAC processing the signal this way at higher sample rates? Thanks for your support
  2. Thanks all of you who answered my inquiry regarding this topic. I can conclude that the hiss is present and whether it’s heard or not depends on the headphone specs and type (open/closed) amongst other factors.
  3. Hi Miska, Are your headphones open or closed back? I just did the same test with open back headphones (Sennheiser HD-600) and the hiss is hardly noticeable. My first test was with a 70 ohm pair of HD 25-1 II, which have a closed back design and really isolate background noise, thus making the hiss more apparent( ( these are my mixing headphones ). Thanks for your answer
  4. Hi everyone, I’ve continued testing my new Mytek Stereo 192 DSD DAC thoroughly (preamp version), and I have noticed that while listening through headphones, without any music playing I hear hiss(a clean hiss similar to white noise) from -30 to 0db. The hiss increases as I increase the volume, and from -10 to 0db is really noticeable. I have tested the DAC, with nothing connected but the power lead and the hiss is always there. Is this hiss normal? Has somebody noticed a similar behaviour on their Mytek? Thanks for your reply
  5. That gives me peace of mind. Thanks for you reply Barrows.
  6. Hello everyone After reading all the reviews about the new Mytek DAC, I decided to take the plunge and yesterday I got the preamp version. I normally listen to music with headphones, and my first listening test with the Mytek Stereo192-DSD DAC was no different. I plugged-in my headphones (Sennheiser HD 25-1 II) and I noticed that when turning the volume from -30 (gradually – one step at a time) to 0 there is a low volume noise, which sounds like a faint "click" or "tick" coming from the headphones. I know the rotary encoder clicks into position and makes a mechanical noise, but the click type of sound I'm talking about came from the headphones. I tried another pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD 600) and changed the DAC from firewire to USB and the results were the same. I also changed the volume settings from analogue to digital and this way the clicking noise disappeared. Why does the analogue volume setting produce such clicking noises when turning it up or down? Is this normal, or is my unit defective? Thanks
