  1. Hiho you lot, Best wishes for the holiday period over Xmas and NY. I had some Computer fun recently. I just wondered if anyone could hazard a guess as to how the PC appeared to remedy itself, kind of. It ended well but initially it had me beat. My DIY, purpose built i9 music PC runs on Windows Server 2019 and is the Standard version in Evaluation mode. The Eval goes for 3 years and every 6 months you can re-arm it with a simple Command prompt. This re-arm would be number 3 of 6. I have never had a re-arm failure using the Server Evals, including my previous 2012 version. This time....'Re-Arm failed.' I Googled troubleshooting. After a few hours without success, I just decided to go ahead and buy a Product Key to fully activate the OS. I found one online that Trust-Pilot said was Legit and trustworthy. Paid my $30 (US) for a legit OEM Key (?) and got the Key within 5 minutes via email. Followed the install instructions via the Command Prompt and of course it failed. #$%^!!!!! No love, just error codes. I checked the error codes but still had no luck. After restarting the PC many times an Info Box popped up to say.............'You have successfully re-armed the Eval OS for a further 180 days.' No idea how that kicked in, but atleast I now had 180 days to sort the Product Key. I tried installing the Product Key a few more times and kept getting an error code. Damn. I fluffed around some more then gave up. The PC needed some Windows updates, so I started on them. @#$%! 3 times the updates got to 93% and stopped. I restarted the PC many more times to try and get the Updates to work or atleast to stop uploading. Finally, I got them to stop. I put in the Command Prompt to check that the PC did in fact have another 180 days of life. Guess what????. The PC informed me the new Product Key had actually finally installed and the PC was fully Activated. That was about 5 hours from start of process to the End. PC's can do your head in. For my future reference, can anyone offer any thoughts as to how things all came together finally? With the Re-arm eventually activating and the new Product Key eventually activating. I know someone will ask about the Error codes. I didn't write them down except one was telling me I hadn't logged on as Administrator, which was not true. Regards Cazzesman
  2. Yesterday I had a GTG at home with 2 audio mates. Both have greater Audio equipment knowledge than I. They suggested the heat from the Keces was fine and of no concern. They also suggested the metal lid was used in the design to help draw the heat away, so perhaps the idea of a Perspex lid with some holes was not suitable. Makes sense when you know ;-p Regards Cazzesman
  3. Folks a quick question re the heat produced by the Keces P8 LPS. I run 2 (12/8 and 20/8) to power my i9 music player. Both are in an open cabinet, so I think ventilation is good. They are alone on separate shelves with plenty of clearance. They do have 80 degree cut off sensors. They are hot to the touch, but I could hold them all day. Both are only drawing 1.1 to 1.3 amp at rest. The Keces p8 case design is enclosed. Most of the heat appears to be directed to the sides. https://www.kecesaudio.com/P8.html#lg=1&slide=0 I was pondering replacing the metal lids with Perspex lids, with some air holes strategically placed. I could drill holes in the metal lids but that wouldn't be prudent if I ever wanted to sell them. Are LPS's such as these actually designed to run at warm/hot temps? Will they still perform as well if they are cooler? Will the lower temp help with the life expectancy of the components? Regards Cazzesman
  4. Thanks, My new background page on my PC. Regards Cazzesman
  5. I have just finished listening to my 4th JB album today. This one was Emotion and Commotion. Lilac Wine with Imelda May - Honestly it wasn't a tear, I just had some dust in my eye. Life sucks at times like this. Dave Gilmour had better live atleast a week after I'm gone, or else I'll be really p155ed off. Regards Cazzesman
  6.            Without a doubt my all-time favorite guitarist. Never failed to produce. An absolute gentleman by all appearances. So glad I got to see him perform so many times. Caz is lucky she is out today because it will be a JB marathon and the JB T-shirt is staying on for a few days. Thanks for the amazing catalogue of music you left us. Regards Cazzesman
  7. I have run some 'non blind test' testing today and.... The Taiko DC-ATX powering the JCat XE usb card internally adds more SQ weight and gravitas than the Gieseler Audio Kraftwerk II 5v/2amp LPS powering it externally. I'm guessing this is a simple situation of 'You get what you pay for' i.e the GA LPS is solid but has nowhere near the research and quality parts and architecture the Taiko has. Regards Cazzesman
  8. A follow up.......... @#$% computers. I was doing some more tweaking with the i9 today. The Curious Evolved cables sure does kill the generic cable I was using for general testing :-) And the Taiko DC-ATX powering the JCat XE usb card internally adds more weight and gravitas than the Gieseler Audio Kraftwerk II 5v/2amp LPS powering it externally. Now onto my Remote Desktop issue. I was trying to track down the issue for my i9 log off as per the story above. When I RDT into the i9 it kicks me to the logon screen and yet I can still see the gui page and access JRiver. But I couldn't get the JRiver to operate via the RDT. I run the i9 into the Mutec so I need Mutec drivers. These are loaded and within JRiver, give me the option to select either a Mutec ASIO driver or a Mutec WASAPI driver. I had been using the WASAPI. When I swapped to the ASIO driver the RDT could then activate all the buttons on JRiver. The i9 is still logged off but access is now granted via the RDT. Go figure. Perhaps some part of the Windows 2019 OS, turned off by the Audioiphile Optimizer software, requires the machine to be logged in for the WASAPI drivers to work. I will have to ask Phil. I have got the WASAPI enabled in AO3.0 All baby steps but getting there, inch by inch. Happy festivities you lot. May Santa be generous Regards Cazzesman
  9. In a previous music server build I am using the following power supply to power a JCat XE card. Kraftwerk II Fixed Output | gieseler 5V/2Amp My recent purchase of an i9 music sever that has a Taiko DC-ATX powering the JCat XE. I haven't tried the Kraftwerk on the new i9 as yet. I was wondering on the pros and cons of one vs the other. I will do comparisons, but can anyone tell me in technical terms, what the Taiko should bring to the SQ over an external LPS. Regards Cazzesman
  10. A simple question re Leaving cables attached to music server but not connected. My i9 music server runs headless but occasionally I need to attach a screen for maintenance. Once the i9 is in the cabinet things are a tad hard to reach. I use my smart TV hdmi as a screen for the i9. It sits above the i9. I also need to plug in a keyboard and mouse for the rest. I was thinking of doing the following for ease of access........ 1. leave an hdmi cable plugged in the rear of the i9 2. Leave two 0.5m ''USB 2.0 A Male to USB A Female leads' plugged into the rear of the i9 for easy access. Neither the hdmi or 2 x usb cables would be connected to TV, mouse or keyboard 99% of the time, so is this likely to have any effect on the SQ.? Seems a silly question but........................that's what we do here :-) Regards Cazzesman
  11. Folks My main Home PC runs windows 11. My i9 Music Server runs WS 2019 which is headless. Via the W11 PC I can access the D: Music folder on WS2019 via a network connection, so can add music easily enough. I have set up Remote Desktop (RD) on the W11 and when I Connect from 11 to 2019 I can access the 2019 GUI screen and interreact with it, so I know RD is working. Alas when I RD into the 2019 the 2019 logs out the password and the WS2019 screen reverts to the ctrl-alt-delete image. From my W11 screen I can still see the GUI of the WS2019 and can access my JRiver software. But because I am actually log out, I can't JRiver to play any tunes using RD. It is not until I re-log back into the 2019 with the password that JRiver is again playable. Once I re-log back into the 2019 with the password it terminates the RD connect on the 2011. My old Music PC is also running WS2019 and I can RD into it without an issue. Any thoughts. Regards Cazzesman
  12. IT guru’s, I will be loading Windows Server 2019, Audiophile Optimizer, Fidelizer and JRiver onto 1 of my NVMe 2tb storage drives. Any recommendation on how big I should make the Partition for the OS? Does 250gig give plenty of redundancy? Regards Cazzesman
  13. Quick question I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Music server. It is running ASUS Z390F MB and Intel i9-9900/CPU. It has (2) Intel 660p 2TB NVMe drives installed. I intend to do a fresh install of Windows Server 2019, along with Phil's Audiophile Optimizer 3.0, JRiver and Fidelizer. What are my best options for installing the 2019 and other programs? 1. simply create a partition on one of the NVMe's (128gig?) 2. Install a 2.5 SSD via sata (I'm thinking not, but open to suggestions) 3. StarTech x4 PCI Express to M.2 PCIe SSD Adapter Card - for M.2 NGFF SSD Is there other Options that won't mess with the SQ. Regards Cazzesman
  14. Thanks again Oneguy, While I have your attention can you give me some clarification as to why the Taiko Audio DC DC-ATX runs best at 35-36 volts. I see the specs on the device suggest optimal is between 19-35 Vlts. I read some comments in a thread on this site whereby it is suggested that running the Taiko ATX with a 19vl Keces P8 LPS is possibly only getting 15-20% (My words) the performance out of the ATX compared to using a 36vlt power supply. Can you or anyone else have a go at explaining why the improvement with 36 over the standardish 19? The reason I ask is all due to economics for me. If I build a DIY Music Server, an Option is to buy an Taiko ATX vs a stock HDPlex 400w ATX and I use a Keces 19-20Vlt 8amp to drive either ATX to power the MB. Is the Keces P8/Taiko operating at 19vlt a big step up from the Keces P8/HDPlex operating at 19vlt if the Taiko really wants to 35-36 to Fly correctly? I currently have a Keces 12vlt (P8 version) with which to power the CPU. In Australian Dollars - Keces P8 - $1000 approx vs 36vlt Power supply - Purchased ready made $3000-$6000 ( I could not build myself so I would have to buy premade) Taiko ATX - $2000 approx vs HDPlex ATX 400 @ $150 So the 36vlt Power Supply is the kicker. I get that having the Taiko ATX does future proof to some extent, down the road of continued improvements when funds permit. Regards Cazzesman
  15. Oneguy thanks for the prompt reply. I'm just confirming, are those prices all in US Dollars? Regards Cazzesman
