  1. ok thanks bdiament! glad i got to learn something new today; not very knowledgable about tech stuff, but i am cleaning house and considering for the first time buying into the whole vinyl thing (have some vinyl only recordings gathering dust) and this info is very helpful, as i have been happy with my EAC rips and HD tracks downloads for years. Your comments about vinyl and master tape playback seems to imply that at around the 3rd spin noise starts building up; would i be wrong to asume that a very carefully set up all-digital environment would yield a cleaner signal overall for a longer time?
  2. hi guys, interesting read. One thing, though: how does vinyl compare to master tape? has anyone here had a chance to directly compare them?
  3. thanks. I actually use EAC also and have great results with it. It's just that my OCD kinda kicks in when my rip is not 100% perfect; i just love that EAC log at the end, i find it very reassuring!
  4. Hey guys, hope this isn't too much off-topic I have been piling up scratched CDs and having bought the SkipDr I am still looking for something superior. I know Disc-Go-Tech from Canada but their models are more of an industrial operation of large quantities, not so much for consumers like me. Do you guys know of any consumer friendly systems out there? or... any company that has this kind of service?
  5. OK thank you very much. I think i'll store the audio AS IS, tempering with the original might not be a good idea.
  6. Hi guys I have some DVDs and blu rays i want store in my computer and before i do that i would like to understand a bit more about native audio resolution on some of my content. Some is in 5.1, others in stereo... when resolution is described by my system, are we talking about RESOLUTION PER CHANNEL? as in 24/96 x 5? Does this transfer equally into music files? or do i have to divide that by 2? Sorry if this is a silly question, i am not very tech savvy but am curious about these things. THANKS
  7. that is what i was afraid of, having the wrong kind of WAV and getting crappy sound in the process. Will, i guess i will try XLD, hope it has a SAME AS SOURCE thing. Kinda wish dbpoweramp would release a beta for Mac already. I loved it back when i used Windows for this kind of stuff. Thanks again
  8. thank you, looks interesting. I still use Windows for EAC, so this may come in handy. Thanks again
  9. A quick one: I intend on having my FLACs on Level 8 for max compression, but some of my downloads from sites like HDTracks and other sites are already in FLAC and i was wondering if there is a way to know which level are the FLACs at. Any Mac software that can facilitate this? Thanks
  10. Hey guys New to the Mac platform for converting music and heard great thing about Max for converting files. Thing is, i almost seem to look at various different types of WAV formats and i get a bit confused about it. I had blowfish for tips on EAC, but i have can't seem to find anything about Max to have the best converting settings. Is there a similar site for tips on getting the best out of Max? Thanks guys, have a great new year.
  11. HAHAHAHAHHAHA That's exactly how i felt the moment i heard Alive! I simply cannot stop hearing Lightning Bolt. Not gonna stop until i get all the lyrics right so i can sing along for the upcoming SD and LA shows. I simply love the tittle track! The sadder/depressing PJ songs are somehow the ones i can most relate to... Somehow Parting Ways, Come Back and the like really get my heart pumping. Anyway, great article sir!
  12. Yeah, Jeff's work on Vs can sound amazing. Vitalogy is sometime a bit loud for me, but maybe that's just the Grados doing their thing.
  13. I do not log into this site much, as i am more into the Head-Fi crowd (Woo WA6 and Grado RS1 for me), but i am very interested in your reviews on DACs. Anyway, it's good to know more audio enthusiasts are into Pearl Jam! Well sir, now you can add Mexico to the readers who are aware of your PJ love, as i also have it. And as i read your article about the Wrigley Field show article, i was probably sitting very near you. If you noticed a jerk who was screaming and high and just being obnoxious, then we definitely were sitting close. I hated that guy! I met a few Americans through Ten Club and we got along so well that we started renting houses to go to shows together. PJ20 2011, Atlanta Midtown 2012, Wrigley Field 2013, and this November to SD and LA1. By the way, which album do you think sounds best? When it comes to audio quality...
  14. It's not a good solution, actually. I have 99.99% of my music in FLAC, a few of them in 24bit. Just means i'll have to look further for a simple, not-too-expensive home setup. Thanks
  15. Ohhh... that sucks. Here i was thinking that the device would allow me to have a nice and simple setup for my small apartment! Would it make any difference if i plug it directly from a computer? I'm guessing i would still need an external DAC.
