  1. I checked out the Musical Fidelity V-Link II and it looks like a good fix. But you know what.. in the interests of keeping the number of boxes to a minimum, I'm going to go back to the store and upgrade the DacMagic to the DacMagic Plus! Will solve the problem and also provide me with a good headphone preamp/DAC. Thanks for all the help! dan
  2. Thanks James. Sounds as though the NuForce Dac is the mustard. I'm hoping to resolve the problem with my DAC soon because I want to get into the business of listening to music! hehe
  3. Thanks Mark. I think I understand what you mean now. So, I need to get some kind of cable called a S/PDIF to utilise the full potential of the Dacmagic (96k). I'll look into it and give it a go. (Wish the store had of mentioned al of this! hehe). Thanks again for your help.
  4. Hi there. I'm testing out JRiver at the moment. I'm using an HP laptop, Windows 7 and have downloaded some HD tracks (from HD Tracks). The laptop is feeding a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic that can output up to 96. I changed the settings to WASAPI Event Style but it said that it couldn't play the format and that it might not be supported by my hardware (which it should). It suggested using DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format (which seems to be ,'direct sound') but this leaves the output at 41.1. Am I doing something stupid? hehe Many thanks! Dan
  5. OK - I'll check it out. Thanks again for the assistance and patience ; )
  6. I think it'st a normal DacMagic - although on the front it does show up to 96 under the incoming sample rate.. hmmm. I will play around. Thanks again for your help!
  7. Hello again ; ) I changed the settings as suggested but it said that it couldn't play the format (WASAPI Event Style) and that it might not be supported by my hardware (which is a DacMagic, so it should). It suggested using DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format (which seems to be ,'direct sound') but this leaves the output at 41.1. When you said, don't forget to tick te DSP box - where was that? I couldn't see it anywhere in the DSP Studio window. Many thanks! Dan
  8. Hello again, I downloaded the JRiver trial player and some HD Tracks. When I play them via the stereo, the DAC says that the incoming sample rate is 44.1. Is there something else I need to do in order to play them at full resolution? Many thanks Daniel
  9. Many thanks John. I will see if BitPerfect can be used on a PC with iTunes and try another if it's not compatible. At the moment, my DAC is telling me that the ripped CD files are playing at 44.1. So, I guess that part is working as it should. Once I download a higher resolution file, I can experiment from there. Thanks again. Daniel
  10. Thanks Mark - I'll give it a go! Kind regards Daniel
  11. H Mark I am using iTunes on a PC because my family listens to iPods every day and we didn't want to buy an expensive apple laptop as the second computer. I would like to have just one library for both the iPods and high definition play back via the stereo. So, I thought there might be something like Pure Music that could do that on a PC. Does that make sense. I'm starting to think that I should have got an Mac laptop... Thanks!
  12. I would like to play my CD collection, which I will rip to Apple Lossless and also greater than CD resolution tracks that I will download from the internet as i continue to build my library into the future. Thanks!
  13. Hi John, Thanks for responding and please excuse my ignorance - but what is BitPerfect? When you say external player, do you mean like a DAC or a player external to iTunes, like Pure Music? Also, how do I configure iTunes so that it can play any bit-depth/rate? I thought that was the purpose of all these other pieces of software. Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know how this stuff works. All I want to do is rip my CD collection to my HP laptop and play them back via a Cambridge Audio DAC. It would also be good to purchase/playback higher than CD resolution online too. My wife and I have ipods that we listen to every day, which is why I would like to use iTunes as the library/file manager. I'm so sorry to ask what is I'm sure the most basic of questions - but what do I need to do in order to achieve this? Many thanks in advance!!! ; ) Daniel
  14. Yeah = I'm trying to find out the same thing but nobody replied... I tried looking around the web but couldn't see anything. Does anyone know? Related to this question - and sorry for hijacking a bit MG555 - if you have ripped all your CDs to Apple Lossless, does that mean that they only play at 44.1/16? ...and if this is the case, you only need iTunes to play them (jacked into an external DAC/Amp)? I'll keep looking around for Pure Music alternatives that are compatible with iTunes on a PC and let you know if I find anything. Thanks, daniel
