  1. Will iTunes store its index on the external drive? How big is the index in relation to total storage? How about playlists, artwork, etc.?
  2. I'm a Windows guy with Squeezebox fed from an external Western Digital 1.5tb mostly filled with FLAC music. I recently came into a 2008 or so iMac that i am bringing back to life with a 40g Intel SSD to be setup in an different room for independent use with another audio system by other occupants. I tried Audirvana with its short-lived HD and really liked it and started ripping & converting files to AIFF also for the WD1.5tb. The plan is to keep the 40gb SSD with only a minimal Snow Leopard and not much else except for Audirvana, but I think I might need iTunes to work as a library to feed Audirvana? Can I simply put iTunes on the SSD but point it at the networked WD 1.5tb drive and existing files and make the music output be controlled by Audirvana. I don't want any music or any frequently rewriting/writing of files on the SSD. Do I need Audirvana Plus for this? What I really need is a detailed recipe for iMac/SSD -->iTunes/Audirvana --->networked music storage complete. These forums have tons of great info in fragments but I have trouble finding a complete how-to & best practices for my scene which must be fairly common.
