  1. Ok, Jorge. Very clear explanation. I will order the inexpensive audio interface.
  2. This is EXACTLY the answer I was needing. I made the change from "20 dB boost" to no boost, and now the input volume level is within the range that my software can adjust to. Thank you very much. My software, Total Recorder, has the ability to save in other formats, and it may even have a tape noise reduction algorithm. I will investigate further. Thank you for those suggestions also. Paul
  3. Thanks for your thorough explanation, Jorge. I found this "audio interface". Does it seem adequate for my purpose? The price is right. http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA222-U-Control-Ultra-Low-Interface/dp/B0023BYDHK
  4. There is no playback volume control on this cassette deck. It has no speakers, just the connectors to go to an amplifier, plus the headphone jack.
  5. I am not much of a techy and need help. I'm converting cassette tapes to mp3 files using my laptop computer and the Total Recorder software. My connection is from the headphone RCA jack of the cassette deck to the "mike in" stereo mini-plug on the laptop. On this computer, there is no "line in" jack. The volume is coming through too loud. I have so far attempted to put up to 2 K Ohm resistors on both channels (1/2 watt resistors), and that has not even made a perceptible difference in the incoming volume. What do I need to do here? Thanks very much for the help ahead of time. Paul
