  1. What is "Sound Enhancer" (low to high)? I don't remember seeing that in the old iTunes app or am I having a moment?
  2. i hate to be the odd man out here but i have heard sonic differences between USB cables when connected between my Young and my 2010 Mac Mini. i've tried the Cardas Clear, Belkin Gold, Kimber Kable B BUS AG (silver) and a handmade USB cable made with solid silver core 28awg wire.
  3. thanks for the response, damien. misread the warning at the bottom... my bad! a bug i found is that if you change an option in the filter settings (using the text field, not slider) but don't tab out to the next field before quitting (so the field is still highlighted), the change is lost. i think some more documentation for the filter settings would be beneficial, especially with regards to upsampling. using google-fu seems to reveal a dearth of information dealing with the implications of using digital filters when downsampling (typically done when mastering down to CD nitrates) but not with upsampling.
  4. this is off-topic but the digital filter white paper from ayre is a good start. i'm going to try and read the craven AES paper when i get a chance. http://www.ayre.com/pdf/Ayre_MP_White_Paper.pdf cheers, - j
  5. after testing the trial, i finally purchased the program yesterday to use with my mac mini + m2tech young DAC. i've also purchased BitPerfect which works equally well if i don't need upsampling. in general, i don't like the default izotope SRC filter settings. i've found i prefer minimal phase (vs. linear phase) settings -- they sound more natural to my ears. i can hear audible distortion on some tracks with some of the filter settings on max (i.e.: steepness: 200dB, cutoff frequency: 2.00 x Nyquist, sample track: Cannonball Adderly's "Something Else" album, track "Love For Sale") so minimum phase without some adjustment to the other parameters is not a silver bullet. here is some feedback: a) since we need to restart audirvana plus to make any filter settings stick, can you add an option to restart audirvana from within the app? (or better yet, forego having to restart the app entirely and just make the changes stick) b) an optional full-screen interface (or at least a double/triple size interface). i know some people like to run their music servers headless but why not take a cue from the likes of front row/apple tv and use the screen as a large music display? for others interested in trying different izotope filter settings here is what i am using: steepness: 6dB filter max length: 2,000,000 samples cutoff freq: 1.10 x Nyquist anti-aliasing: 200 pre-ringing: 0 (minimum phase) the above are modelled after the minimum phase anodizing filters as described in the ayre white paper on digital filters. - john
