1. I've just got mine too. I have found none of the problems mentioned here but would offer a few tips from my experience: The unit arrives with no instructions and an unmarked mini size disc! After installing the drivers (XP) the unit appeared in my device list but none of my players (Winamp, Media Monkey, cool edit or Foobar) produced any sound. Moving to media player's output configurations, the unit failed to appear on any (all four) device list. I found that it was 'muted' in the computer sound>>>volume box. Unmuting caused the devide to appear and away it went. I had several 'turn it off and turn it on again' sessions and I'm not sure whether these had any effect. I had been using Edirol UA-25 and an onboard Realtek card, both at 96k. These always played through at 96k regardless of the bit rate of the source. The Hiface on the other hand sends through the bit rate of the source. My Lyngedorf TDA 2200 all digital amp happily updated the bit rate in it's front panel display accordingly via all players apart from Foobar where it sometimes (often, always) got stuck at the wrong bit rate although the sound flowed out normally as if nothing was wrong. What a shame because Foobar is the only player I've found that plays everything right from the start. If I find out any more I'll let you all know.
 2. If you install winamp, there is a setting deep down that, by default, disables (yes, dis-ables) 24 bit replay. Follow the trail and I'll show you: right mouse button > options > preferences : Then select general preferences > playback > click on playback tab: Here I found a box labelled 'allow 24 bit' unticked. Tick the box and you're in hi def. For a novice it's not easy to deduce waht is happening from the main winamp display. Winamp warns of possible problems with some sound cards but all computers in my household and business show no problems when set this way
 3. Yes, I too am an outsider, blocked from access to certain sites. Business lesson number 1: Your volume of sales will be hampered if you decide to restrict who you are going to sell to. Just sell to everybody then everybody's happier, apart from the legal boys that is and if they are unhappy that makes me happier still.
 4. Has anybody encountered this? I got the RR Rachmaninov and 'Hot Club' WAV files the other day which played straight away through Winamp with no adjustment necessary. The system automatically downsampled to my maximum 96k 24 it resolution. However, my latest batch of RR WAV files (Sibelius, Sullivan, The Tempest) will not play. They appear in the play list but when played the whole list runs through in a split second, just as if the files were invalid. I noticed that the timings didn't appear on the right of the playlist window and also that the 'get file info' button failed to work. Trying Windows media player produced a warning (blaming me for my incompetence) and invited me to upload a suitable driver that 1t was never going to deliver. Loading the files into 'Cool Edit' solved all problems and the music played perfectly. Installing 'Media Monkey' (RRs recommended software) also solved the problem So why should winamp and media player play some RR files and not other when the files are the same format? Ive tried re setting attributes and even renaming (sometimes there's a funny hidden character). I even saved the files out of cool edit into a different format (eg WAV) and they still would no play in winamp. I prefer Winamp because I organise my music in windows and just double click or drag what I want to play. Windows media centre takes over which I hate and media monkey seems to have been influenced by the same thinking. System: Hush PC (with inbuilt realtek sound card 24bit 96k), windows XP (urghh!) output through s/pdif to a Lyngedorf all digital power amp (24bit 192k capable). Any tips?
 5. I've sampled the Rachmaninov, Hot club and recently the Tempest.

Even at reduced resolution (my card only gets up to 96k 24bit) there is deeper enjoyment of the music. Hats off to reference Rcordings for doing this and undersatanding what we audiophiles need.

Problem is that computer hardware people don't seem to understand audio like I do. Just because it says 192k on the box it does not mean that 192k comes out. I'll give you an example, I recently bought and EMU0404 outboard USB that advertised 192k 24bit. I found out that the high resolution is only put through it's own internal DAC. This DAC might be ok for some but it's still fed by noisy USB power.

I have a Lyngedorf all digital amplifier so I need digital out at max resolution. The EMU only gives 96k through the spdif so I kind of got misled. Spesakign with the dealer revealed that it was not in fact possible to extract 192k 24bit out of spdif on any outboard card and that inbuilt cards were only just becoming available.

Anyway, The Reference Recordings are an absolute delight at 96k and I can look forward to better sound when the hardware catches up. That is unless somebody can point to suitable hardware that I might have missed?
