  1. XLD has several options for encoding - should I select same as original for best quality or 44.1kHz for my ALAC files? Also is there actually an option to select 16/24? Kevin
  2. Hi Theresa, Firstly, many thanks for your comprehensive feedback and thoughts. This is my first look at archiving my music collection. I basically need two functions as I explained in my original post (but perhaps did not explain very well!): 1. Files that I can play on my home audio equipment where storage is not an issue, 2. Files that I can use on my iPhone where smaller files are beneficial for longer journeys. I use Mac's at home and intend to purchase SONOS equipment in the near future. I suggested MP3's because that is what I have previously used. I had not considered other alternatives. Based on this, do you have any other advice? Kevin
  3. Apologies for my ignorance - is there any difference between the quality of the encoding if considering a comparison between the two. Or, anything that I can read? This will be a long term backup of my library. I want to get it right, first time! Thanks Kevin
  4. Hi there, Thanks for the feedback, I'm interested in the difference between ALAC and FLAC? I was thinking that FLAC is a more universal and widely accepted format. Therefore I was assuming that FLAC would be a better archive medium - am I poorly informed? Kevin
  5. Hi all, I'm just about to start archiving my CD collection and hoped I might get some help to answer a few questions. I intend to use XLD to store my archive on NAS. I want to use this archive as my primary backup but also use iTunes and will use SONOS in the future so need to be able to convert the files to different formats. I may also need to burn back to CD in the future. Here goes with the questions: 1. Assuming that I create FLAC files - what level of compression should I use? 2. How easy is it to create MP3 files from the archive once created? 3. Is it possible to burn back to CD and do I need to create a .cue file to support this Any other advice greatly recieved. Many thanks Kevin
