  1. Ok, thanks! So, trial and error even in the realm of CA.
  2. DigiPete - Thanks for your positive reply. I will go right ahead an store my musicfiles on the TC. Toby
  3. My MacBookPro will soon be full and I have to do something. I play music in iTunes + Amarra mini. MBP feeds the DAC via HighFace Evo. I have a TimeCapsule for backup wireless connected to the MBP. These are my questions: 1. Is it a good idea to store my music files on the TC? There seem to be plenty of space. Or should I buy an external HD and connect it to TC via USB? 2. Is wireless ok for SQ? 3. Is external HD via firewire to MBP a better alternative than wireless? I use the MBP for music in both my living room and my studio (Arcam rDac + amp) so convenience will be good but SQ is first priority. I have tried to find answers to these questions on this forum but there is different opinions concerning wireless/ethernet and that on the TC there is only one partition and therefore not good for storing music files together with backup. Appreciate your comments on my thoughts. Toby
  4. Thank´s Neil for a post most worth considering. I´ll move on with an open mind. When I started this thread my focus was actually on the Lyngdorf´s dac, but now I realise I must broaden my view. From yours and others posts I can read that the B&W speakers are challenged. So, they will also be tried. If they have to go they will have to go. What comes out of this I have no idea. The upgrading fever isn´t that bad, for the moment anyway, so I´ll be willing to spend a huge amount of money just for a minor improvement. But we will see what happens. Another thing, it is really incredible how much the acoustic properties of the listening room influences SQ. I highly recommend the Master Hand of Acoustics. Oh, I hope I did not brake any laws now! I can assure you will not regret digging in to this subject. AND it costs you peanuts compered to flashy equipment. Thank you all for your help Toby
  5. Thank you all for your comments. Some of your thoughts I´v had myself but it´s always a help to hear them from others. The MCD7005 I only use as transport now as I find the sound to be clearer, more detailed and much more interesting when using the Lyngdorf as dac and preamp. It was in the process of finding a new CD-player that I discovered CA and decided to go that rout instead. About the 801s, the comments was not what I wanted to hear. Although I´v had those thoughts myself I´v been suppressing them. For two reasons, first the 801s have served me very well for a long time and a separation would be an emotionally difficult thing. Second, if I´m replacing them what would I have pay for something substantially better. I imagine that will be something like 5000-10000 Euro (700-1400 USD). Please correct me if I´m wrong here. The sound from my system is very clear and detailed and there is also a touch of something I would call musical. The sound stage is wide and there is depth but it could be deeper. There is sometimes a slight harshness when the volume is high and violins or electric guitars are playing. Could be my ears (also old stuff) because I´v noticed it varies according to my physical condition. Although my system sounds nice I would like to be so seduced by what comes out of the speakers so I forget all about the equipment. Only the music is there. A physical presence you could almost touch. Maybe that´s too much to ask for. But as a bozo on this bus you never give up. I think I´ll start with the dac. What comes into my mind is the AMR DP-777, also discussed in this forum. And move from there to my beloved speakers. If there is no massive protest against a such a step from this forum, that is. Best regards Toby
  6. For some time I have been following the discussions on this forum and learned a lot about CA based systems and related topics. It have also made me enter the CA path. Though my system sounds great I´v had a tiny thought in my head for some time and it is now slowly growing. I´v had this feeling before. Since we all are on the same bus you will probably be familiar with the phenomenon. Can my system sound better? And what´s the next step towards the ultimate SQ? This is why I turn to you for advice. Mostly I listen to classical music, blues, rock and some jazz. My system: MacBook Pro, SSD, 8GB, Amarra mini, WAV and Aiff >Audioquest Forest USB 1,5m > HiFace Evo > Supra Trico coax 4m /McIntosh MCD7005 digital out> Transparent Premium 75ohm 1m/ > Lyngdorf DPA-1 > Transparent MusicLink plus > Krell KAV-250a > Transparent Cable plus > B&W 801. After reading Master Handbook of Acoustics the WAF of my listening-room has declined extensively. Also a consequence of visiting this forum. But that´s another story, let´s look at my system. Is there a weak link in the chain? Or do I have to change everything? Some of the stuff is rather old. Speakers are from late 70s and the CD mid 80s but in good condition. What do you think about the dac in the Lyngdorf? Looking forward for your comments. I´ll be grateful for anything; from, stop thinking about amps and cables and listen to the music to get rid of the lot and buy new. Toby
