  1. Yup, WAV is good(er).. A solution for the tagging is of course if the awesome player would support cue files, a workaround for tagging WAV..
  2. I don't know if I'm off the initial topic here but this device or a similar may help you to skip the step of first burning the disc, then extracting the content. http://www.furutech.com/download/ADL%20GT40_News.pdf
  3. Interesting, I've been thinking about one of those myself! Did you already have the chance to try it with the Kernel Stream plugin? If I understand it correctly, that should work excellent at least with foobar judging by the review linked from Aprilmusic themselves.. http://6moons.com/audioreviews/aprilmusic5/u2.html If you don't feel like reading it all, here's what I find most interesting: Feeling a bit flummoxed because audiophile wisdom of simple is better seemed capsized, I suddenly remembered my earlier interview with April Music's Simon Lee: "I am listening to PC with normally ripped CD 44.1 to WAV played by Foobar upsampled to 24/96 over the Stello U2 into our DA100 Signature DAC to be upsampled to 192kHz. From there I go into the new Ai500 and MG20.1 speakers. This is fantastic! You can even compare it with dCS. You will see very soon. We are optimistic about PC or streaming media playback but we have to see what SONY/BMG, Warner etc will do for HQ music. For the time being, we will concentrate on standard CD playback (CD or ripped) at 24/96 played via 192kHz upsampling." Readers not familiar with the Stello DA100 Signature converter must know that it—like the Ai500 above—sports its own USB input. Yet the designer listens via the U2. Now I can appreciate why. I simply don't understand what makes it so. But my ears tell me that Mr. Lee is correct. For music lovers blissfully ignorant about engineering matters, that's good enough. Good luck and keep us updated!
  4. You COULD take a look at this.. It's a bit of both I would say.. Still not more than two channels but probably the DAC as well as the room correction in this unit will beat what you have now.. http://www.lyngdorf.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=33 Good luck!
  5. I have no ways of measuring or analyzing files.. However I've been with SoS for a while now and so far there has always been a note if there have been up sampling. There is no such note in this download.. And, as already noted the sound is very good. Almost as important (or perhaps even more important), the emotions put in by Peter Gabriel in these recordings.. Did I hear genius?
  6. Well, I certainly am not young enough to know it all..<br /> <br /> Chris, thank you for being on your toes, catching and sharing stuff like this! In my opinion this is highly interesting material and i find the reasoning in the pod cast quite easy to follow.<br /> <br /> Unfortunately I don't have the money to invest in a 5.1 setup of the same quality as my 2 channel setup. Some of the limitations are not related to money though, as an example the manufacturer of my carefully selected DAC only provides 2 channel stuff. (Yes, I know.. Some of the examples in the pod cast refers to simple and non expensive installations of 5.1..)<br /> <br /> Keep up the good work!
  7. I think that the KS will not work at all unless you use Vista or Windows 7. That goes for USB and KS in general if I understand it correctly.. At least this is true for the setups I tried.. Is it an option to upgrade the OS to Vista or Windows 7? In that case you will besides the KS also be given the option to work with WASAPI.. Good luck either way!
  8. In my experience the best I can get is when I use the Kernel Stream from Foobar. This was true for me also when I used XP and when I used Vista. I have not performed any kind of scientific tests, and certainly no measurements, but it just feels best so I go with it. It is classified as experimental although the plugin is from like 2006 and I have found that it will not work with just any soundcard. However it works with mine and also without soundcard when I connect to my DAC directly with USB it is flawless. The subject is interesting so I'll watch out for more posts!
  9. I'm awaiting my copy, should arrive next week..<br /> <br /> However, I'm a bit surprised I couldn't find foobar among all the posts here. Perhaps it works so well that noone had any issues to report? (Yet?)<br /> <br /> Well, perhaps I'm among the list of people with problems as of next week.<br /> <br />
  10. I purchased this one from HD-tracks after reading this post and I like it! Thank you very much for the tip!
  11. Greetings! I guess you already had a look here? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XRCD To my understanding the XRCD, XRCD 24 and K2HD etc are all "redbook" CD when you purchase the disc. It's the process of creating the master that differs if I get it correctly. If the final product differed from the redbook CD in bit rate or bit depth, you would not be able to play it on every CD player, which you can. Compare to HDCD, which need something extra to decode it. When it comes to how it sounds, you'll be the judge.. I do own a couple of K2HD and XRCD and the sound is great and to me well worth the extra money whether it is about something that was "restored and enhanced" (like the good old Jazz at the Pawnshop) or if it was recently recorded using state of the art equipment. Please fill in and if necessary correct me.
  12. Possibly to be able to sell according to local laws and regulations. Compare with hdtracks.com that, at least when I checked the last time, will not sell to you unless you're a US citizen. This if I remember correctly due to taxes etc. Just a thought, I'm not defending the phenomena..
  13. Of course there must be a list of records to live for, another excellent idea! - Arne Domnérus - Jazz At The Pawnshop - Blue Coast Collection - The E.S.E. Sessions - Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms - Nils Lofgren - Acoustic Live
  14. This is good stuff, I've been with'em since almost a year.<br /> <br /> I'm specially happy with the 24/48 initiative. I was a bit dissapointed when I found out that some of those releases were upsampled afterwards though..<br /> <br /> Overall, this is one of the places you'd want to check out if you're looking for high resolution music.<br /> <br /> Especially, this is a site you'd want to check out if you're looking for new and sometimes a bit uniqe music!
  15. Thank's a bunch vortecjr! I read the first paragraphs in the "What is Jitter" section and finally think I can say that I start to get what the fuzz is all about.. I'll continue the interesting reading and see if I can also understand how their solution to this works.
