  1. I don't think I hear anything, I mean that I read these things on the internet (about jitter) and than I start to wonder if I could encounter that same problem(s). I see you have a lot of knowledge too. I really don't know what all that is (phase-locked loop/double buffering???). Any idea where I can find the buffering scheme of the XTZ?
  2. When you look at the Chorus DS app for iPad/iPhone for Linn DS devices, the file type you are playing is visible within the app (i.e. Aiff 16 bit 44100 Hz Duration 05:37). See this forum for screenshots: http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/archive/index.php/thread-9816-7.html Is this possible within the Remote app for iTunes (Apple)? Or is there an app for iTunes that has this feature?
  3. And is the DAC a good one for toslink? I hear things about jitter... Don't know about the circuitry. Here's a picture of the inside: http://www.hifi-wiki.de/index.php/XTZ_Class_A100_D3 And: http://www.google.nl/imgres?q=xtz+class+a100+d3&hl=nl&sa=X&biw=1440&bih=809&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=1PTHf1F_v6P8VM:&imgrefurl=http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/showthread.php/78751-Vahvistimien-%25C3%25A4%25C3%25A4nelliset-erot/page3&docid=EFhVJsqJQaPPVM&imgurl=http://iloapp.sm5xjx.se/data/_gallery/public/3/1215720294_resized.jpg&w=1280&h=960&ei=vJgOT_LVGceXOsKgyJwD&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=356&sig=108954344959214070035&page=1&tbnh=124&tbnw=185&start=0&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0&tx=76&ty=48
  4. As I said before, the room placement is the most difficult thing I encountered. I think I got it right now... The thing I have to do when listening is, move my seat to the front because the room is to big to sit at the normal position the couch is in. When I sit at the "listening position", all is great! And the XTZ Class A100 D3 has a built in DAC (an Analog Devices AD1955, don't know is it's a good one or not???), so my Mac mini is connected with the amp with a (simple) to slink cable (1 meter). Great links btw!!! Thanks guys!!!
  5. Haven't done Hog Mode (yet). But, does this mean that the rest of the audio does not work anymore, only Pure Music will produce sound? I use my Mac mini for movies too, but when Hog Mode enabled, I won't have sound through VLC? Is this correct, or am I misinterpreting things?
  6. Thanks for the "warning". I will keep this in mind! And when I get home, I';; read the article. Thanks for your help!!
  7. Don't think I have a glass toslink cable. It's a simple cable from the local electronics store. I've got Memory Play enabled, but I'm not sure about Hog Mode. What is that and how do I turn that on?
  8. I'll try to find out if I can find better speaker cables. As for the placement; this is what I think is the most difficult part. I tried many places for my speakers and found out that even a couple of cm's can be a big difference... Any tips on what good toslink cables are, or what to look out for when buying?
  9. Thanks for your really helpfull answers! The main reason is that I want to get the most out of my current setup. If a ("small") investment can be a big difference than it's interesting. The question about the speaker cables is because I think they are the weakest link (maybe together with the standard toslink cable. What are good toslink cables???). I am happy now with the sound, but sometimes I can hear sometings that I don't like and I think can be better. I.e. some voices don't come from the center of the two speakers (I dont know the English word for it).' I have a good reference; my father has a Linn Majik DSI with Wilson Benesh Curve loudspeakers and Audio Quest cables. I know this is a whole different price range... I only play AIFF files. Sources may vary from cd quality to (Linn's) Studio Master quality. No MP3's. Maybe I am a victim of marketing, I hope so! This forum helps me to find that out with you being the first to point it to me.
  10. A couple of questions: - What will the difference be if I buy a USB/Firewire to S/PDIF converter? - What are good USB/Firewire to S/PDIF converters for about $ 200? - Will better speakercables help (a lot)? - Will isolating/upgrading cables help (power cables/USB cables/toslink cable)? - Anything else to think about?
  11. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of listening to a new streamer made by Kharma. I was at Kharma in Breda, listening to some speakers, amps, etc. and at the bottom of the cabinet stood a wooden shelf with components built on it. It was the "finished" streamer that Kharma will introduce this year. The casing is the last thing they have to develop. Anyone know more about this streamer? In my opinion, Linn is the only brand with really great streaming options.
  12. Thanks for your reply. I'm still in that process and that is very difficult... But fun too. Amazing to see how a couple of cm makes a big difference... But the reason for my post is to find out if there is something I can do to get the MOST out of my setup. Mark
  13. Hi there, I am fairly new to audio but I am a true music lover. After a good search and with my budget this is what i bought: - Mac mini 2011 with iTunes and Pure Music - XTZ Class A D3 Amplifier with built in DAC - Optical cable between Mac mini and XTZ amplifier - XTZ 99.26 MK2 speakers - Inakusitk REFERENZ LS-502 speaker cables I am really happy with the sound but I am wondering if there is something I can do to improve the sound even more. I've read some articles about usb cables for instance and how they can affect the sound quality. Maybe an USB DAC is a good investment so you don't have the disadvantage of toslink cables (jitter) and the sound card of the Mac mini is bypassed. I am going to buy a subwoofer because in some cases the bass is not in control. I noticed that Pure Music makes a difference but not enough. I hope to get a lot of replies on how to get the best out of my setup. Thanks everybody!! Best regards, Mark
