  1. I also wanted to add that I thought about using one of my USB ports and internally disconnecting the voltage instead of using something to block the voltage on the outside.. would this be OK? :~)
  2. Thanks for the advice here! I believe that I will order the Uptone Audio USB Regen and keep my WW Platinum USB cable for a comparison. Perhaps later on I could see about purchasing the LH- LightSpeed cable.. Who knows, maybe by that time, reverendo may have found a better cable much cheaper in price..hehehehe
  3. Hello reverendo, I have been briefly reading over this thread and was wondering about this Light Harmonic Lightspeed USB cable as in comparison to the wire world Platinum starlight USB cable I presently own and purchased several years ago. I needed to have a fairly long run as my pc tower is on one wall of the room and my dac is on the other wall. My question is have you had a chance to listen to this WW Platinum Starlight USB cable? I also see that Wire World has a newer version of this cable as a series 7, and I was told that it is much better then what I have. Just wanted your input on this and if someone else would like to jump in, that would be fine. Also wanted to know if you have recently auditioned any new USB cables? Thanks in advanced!
  4. Hi Ted, Thanks for your info! I personally can hear a difference from playing a flac file that is compressed versus one that is uncompressed. I have noticed that the sound of an uncompressed file has more of a cleaner, sharper image. Just my 2 cents. Anyhow, I am trying to configure the various volumes of these files, as some are recorded with lower db while others output higher db. Do you know how I could do this using dbpoweramp? I have J river, but I am not sure how to set it to play all songs at the same volume. Any help on this would be appreciated! Thanks again!
  5. Hello again! I have some more questions about using dbpoweramp. 1. I have some compressed flac files that are 16-bit/44.1KHz that are compressed at different percentages. One file might be at 34% while another is at 53%. My question is do I use the Flac converter in dbpoweramp to uncompress these files to lossless uncompressed? I have tried converting these compressed flac files by using the wav and aiff formats to see if I could hear a difference. I just want to be certain that I am compressing/converting these files correctly. I have been organizing my music files and have read that I should have the main files in Flac format. Then I can convert these Flac files into a wav file as my working files. I know this does require some extra space on the HDD, but I would imagine it is worth the extra space and labor. Thanks again!
  6. Hi Wisnon! Do you know if the download of the Thriller album from HD Tracks is ripped this way? Thanks
  7. Hi Synfreak, Thanks for your time and effort! Would you say after the info that you gathered that the download at HD Tracks would sound better then the cd I have now? Thanks in advance!
  8. Could you please let me know the SQ after you have reset XLD to 24-bit. Thanks!
  9. Hi Synfreak! In your opinion, would you say that the SQ of the HD track version would have better clarity as well as what you've described as ooohhmmp-lol I guess if I did download the 88.2 kHz/24bit version, I won't be disappointed!? As far as the thriller cd's we own, I would imagine that by using the dbpoweramp program, one could use the "EQ" and play around with it to get to one's own liking! Thanks again for your relpy!
  10. @ Eloise: The reason I had mentioned downloading the thriller album in Flac, was after reading through what Chris said about being a good method of ripping music in Flac due to future changes and such. It was my understanding that these Flac files can always be converted. If I remember correctly, Chris mentions ripping at 44.1kHz/16bit for the Archival copy (Flac) then a working copy (wav) and then en edited copy. I hope I have that correct.
  11. Hello Eloise, Thank you for your input! I really wish that HD tracks would offer more downloads of single tracks. Most of the music on there requires you to download the entire album. If I decide to download the thriller album, I will get my money's worth as I like all of the songs on the thriller album-LOL I was wondering if HD tracks has the best/most selection of music?
  12. @ Synfreak: Thanks for your input! I am wondering if I do download the 88.2 kHz/24bit files, I guess I could always convert it to 176 kHz/196kHz-24bit with dbpoweramp to see if it makes a difference? The Thriller cd that I have by Michael Jackson is the special edition one. The disc itself is black with gold writing and the play side is gold. It shows on the label side 1982, 2001MJJ Productions Inc. It has a logo of Epic, which appears to be a trademark of Sony Music Entertainment Inc. I was reading on the back of the plastic cd holder and it says that it was re-mastered by Bernie Grundman, Los Angeles, California. Perhaps this info might tell if it is a good recording or I need to get the one from HD tracks-lol
  13. I have a couple of questions that perhaps someone can answer. I was looking on the HD tracks dot com website, and found the Michael Jackson Thriller album. It is available for download in Audiophile at 176 kHz/24bit and also 88 kHz/24bit. I had bought this cd years ago, and I would believe that it is a standard 44.1 kHz/16bit format. Here are my questions: 1. Considering that I have J River MC and am using an external dac connected by USB from pc to dac that is capable of up to 196kHz/24bit, would I get the better sound by downloading the 176kHz/24bit file versus the 88kHz/24 bit file? 2. I see that HD tracks are offering an option of downloading in 4 different file formats. Options are aiff, alac, flac, and wav formats. Should I download the flac format as I have Windows XP/7 as OS? 3. Would this be a waste of money to get the higher resolution format download from HD tracks, as I already own this cd in 44.1 kHz/16bit? I guess what it comes down to is the SQ I am looking for. I did read over Chris's configuring the dbpoweramp program correctly. I am wondering if I could perhaps rip this Thriller cd to flac, and then convert it to the formats that are offered at HD tracks. I am uncertain if this would be the same. Any help would be appreciated!

  15. Ok- I see. So I would just rip them as a .wav file at 16/44? Thanks!
