  1. Hey Ed, Thanks for the reply. I didn't think about the RAM requirments for playback. I've got 16 BG that came with the Mini when I acquired it from a friend. I guess I'll install that as a first step and see if it solves the problem.
  2. Good morning, I've searched through the internet looking for answers as to why, a majority of the time, my iTunes skips every other song whether playing an album or a playlist. I'm running a Mac Mini 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo w/ 4GB RAM & a Musical Fidelity V-Link DAC. If I'm watching the iTunes screen, the little speaker icon jumps to the next track, but then jumps down one more and that song starts playing. Every once in a while, when it does work right, the icon quick jumps two tracks then back to the appropriate one. The Audirvana interface is being displayed on top of the iTunes display. Even if I use the "next track" button on Audirvana, it does the same thing. I've been trying to isolate the issue, but everything that I've tried doesn't yield any results. Shuffle is turned off, all tracks are checked, and if I double click on the track that's been skipped it starts playing. It's become a surprise when the right track plays when it's supposed to. I do experience, on occasion, where a song will skip to the next track somewhere in the middle of it's playback. Just wondering if this an Audirvana issue. Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch in advance. Y'all are a great resource of wisdom! Cheers, Kev
  3. Hey Junker, what raid chassis & config are you using? I had kinda thought about going that route just to have the security of a raid. Cheers VH
  4. Just curious, What SSD's are you guys using or recommend? Would it be recommended, in addition to the internal, to go with an external chassis that I could plug additional SSD drives into to allow for additional storage as my collection grows?
  5. Thanks to everyone that has responded so far. My main use would be music playback (iTunes, Pandora, & HD Tracks) iPhone & iPad updates, etc... maybe some video streaming and occasional web surfing. I've always tried to approach technology with a "future proofing" attitude, so I can see where the i7 would allow me some room to grow into.
  6. Getting ready to make the Mac Mini plunge and have a quick question (which probably isn't so quick), Are there any benefits of going with the 2.7 Ghz i7 over a 2.5 Ghz i5 with 8 GB RAM? Or am I getting to the point of "overkill"? Thanks a bunch! Cheers, VH13
  7. Ah ha...Thanks Beetlemania! Don't know how I missed that one? Duh
  8. Please pardon my ignorance, but what is CAPS? I've looked high & low through the forum and can't find a definition for the acronym. Too many to keep track of in my brain. Thanks a bunch! Cheers,
  9. Thanks JP, That's what I was planning on doing also. A friend of mine runs the Audirvana Plus and loves it. Just couldn't understand why I needed an external DAC instead of using the one in my Yamaha receiver.
  10. I'm getting ready to do the Mac Mini as a music server, as well, and wondered what the benefit is of going with an external DAC over utilizing the HDMI inputs on my receiver or the separate digital audio inputs? (I have both optical and coaxial inputs)
