  1. Many thanks Bernhard It's certainly opened my eyes to what a quality power supply can do... Happy New Year Jason
  2. I’m a new member writing to report my findings following having tested the KingRex PSU II (many thanks to Mark at Item Audio for offering a genuine ‘try before you buy’ policy). I have a Bel Canto CD2 which, as standard, comes with an external switch mode power supply. I had felt that there was room for improvement on this supply – not least because Bel Canto themselves offer two upgrade options. However, the ‘cheaper’ of these two options comes in at close to £500 allowing for the unit plus a bespoke connecting cable required for the CD2 which led me to search out alternatives. I had initially looked at Teddy Pardo but being based in Israel this meant buying blind and risking a 20% premium to the selling price if I was clobbered for VAT on import! I met Mark at the National Audio Show back in September and finally got around to trying the KingRex PSU II in December after discussing my options in a couple of further telephone conversations. Initial impressions on arrival were good; it’s a compact and well finished product. I have to say that whilst I was expecting some improvement, I got a whole lot more than that. After A/B testing a variety of CDs I was getting consistent results across them all. The best way to describe it was a more natural feel, very open and atmospheric with a greater feel for the recording acoustic. I’m more aware of leading edges and the decay of notes making recorded music more involving and realistic. Soundstage has opened up in terms of depth, height and width. The whole system feels as though it’s been elevated, as if freed to perform at its peak. Downsides are limited and nothing to do with the audible benefits; for me the supplied DC cable is too short at 50cm from tip to tip and the blue LED indicating power on is far too bright! What I find both exciting and encouraging about this is that, in context of the total value of my system the KingRex provided a significant upgrade for an extremely cost effective £230! Needless to say the KingRex PSU II has not made the trip back to Item Audio and remains safely in my rack! Currently on order is an upgrade Mark Grant DC cable available at a very reasonable cost. Obviously I can only speak for my own results in the context of my own system but I would recommend anyone give an upgraded power supply a try.
