  1. Thanks for the help! Chip
  2. Thanks jackfish! What I'm unsure about is do I DL iTunes to new server then copy the library to it or does copying the library take care of that? Chip
  3. Hi Folks, I need some help transferring iTunes to my new server. I have already copied the media/music files to an external HD, for it to work with server do I just copy the library files to new HD? Or download iTunes on new server and copy old library to it? i have found lots of info on moving iTunes but not when it's split. What I want is all my programs- Windows 8, iTunes, JPlay and db power amp on one drive and music on the other. Thanks for any help, Chip
  4. Yamaha 920 R that was built for Battle of the Twins roadingracing-Superbike was getting too expensive and fast--front wheel & rotors from a GSXR, rear wheel from a FZR600, rear brakes from a 750 ninja and nicely built engine. It was a hoot until the 996 (I think) Ducatti came along-great bike but it should not have been in the twins class it was clearly designed to dominate superbike. Anyway put lights back on and its been a fun streetbike since. She earned the name Gypsy after a Bob Seger tune on a long ride S out of Glacier National Park. I have looked at newer bikes but every spring on the first ride of the season...
  5. My sincere thanks for the replies, now I know I was on the right track. This will be my first try at building a computer and I'm excited to get started.
  6. After reading the articles on building the CAPS 1 & 2, the opinions of using various PCs and Macs, all the discussions of the various music players and ripping hardware, and not being scared off I've decided to build my own music server. I want it to be self contained (cd/dvd drive, sdd & hdd),fanless and headless. I don't have enough money to afford too many mistakes so a few questions before grabbing the debit card and placing orders: For the CPU I'm thinking either a Intel i5 2500T that uses a max of 45 watts or maybe the i7 2600S at 65 watts-any others I should be looking at? Is there a quality or audio difference between ATX vs Micro ATX motherboards? 2.5 or 3.5 internal HDD-does one type run cooler, quieter or sound better? Do enclosures work well or just raise the temp of the drive? Finally how much RAM is too much? Thanks for any suggestions,
  7. Hi Mark, I love tubes, my introduction to hi fi began with a used Dynaco stereo 70 amp and pas2 preamp and double advents per channel, it got better when I added a ADC XLM Mk II phono cart. Then the disease took control, I was addicted to gear-next came a GAS Ampzilla and Dahliquist DQ10s, then Infinity Quantum 4s and ...most everything was gone and I had to start over. My system doesn't look or sound as impressive as before but it sounds pretty good and got me off the "merry-go-round"
  8. almost always when listening to tunes for enjoyment, if my air guitar playing gets to active one of the pupsters will usually nudge me with a look of 'what are you doing' and if moved to get up and boogie well then eyes open and dancing with hounds...
  9. Being new this forum Iusually just read, evaluate and learn but for this topic I have some not so humble opinions. I very much prefer an active preamp and it should have tubes. If shopping used ARC, Conrad-Johnson or Audible Illusions are excellent choices and good arguments could be made for all three. I owned the Audible Illusions until a roommate moved and took it with them... Currently I have the Eastern Electric MiniMax with upgraded caps and NOS Phillips Miniwatt 12 AU7 tubes. A simple 3 tube unit that sounds very good with my Audio Sector Patek. If I won the lottery or had a better job I'd have the Coincident Statement Line Stage and thank the audio gods for my good fortune. Kinda fun looking for new gear isn't it
  10. Tonight we're getting ready for our biggest storm of the winter and that means the weekend starts a little earlier than usual. Robert Lucas's "Luke and the Locomotives" started the festivities-Big Man Mambo is great! This is a tough album to follow but the harmonica made me fire up the Ozark Mountain Daredevils self titled first album and that lead to Heartsfirld's "The Wonder of it All" and I'm not sure what's next...
  11. After a semi weird day it was time for some comfort tunes, this evening started with CS&N's "Daylight Again, followed by Poco's "Crazy Eyes, next up "Sittin' In" from Loggins & Messina, "Waiting for Columbus"-especially "Mercenary Territory" from Little Feat and to call it a night John Hiatt's "Slow Turning"
  12. My point too, I haven't had this much fun with tunes in a very long time. I am new to the computer audio hobby and have enjoyed learning what's going on, reading the ah...differences of opinions and becoming a member of this community.
  13. anomalies, maybe...I was enjoying Starship Trooper when I could swear I was instructed to play it backwards...then again maybe not. I'll check my quantum cables next.
  14. To esldude, Thanks for the info. and the link to Stereophile. The only review I've read is from "Enjoy the Music". When I purchased the Patek I was very close to buying one of the ASL tube amps and learned of the Reference 3A products then and have thought of upgrading since then... Chip
