  1. Thanks very much Chris. I've owned TEAC products in the past and so I looked at TASCAM first. So the ones you mention would just plug in and play I guess. I'll check them out. I don't do any recording beyond making direct copies of audio sources on my CD burner or Nakamichi cassette deck. Therefore I only need the features necessary for a pure stereo system component. Do recommend any particular device?
  2. Last year I turned my Dell into a stereo component using an M-Audio Audiophlie 192. After a second motherboard failure, I've just replaced that computer with an HP that runs 64 bit Vista. Installed the 192 only to find that there are no 64 bit drivers availble for most M-Audio products, including mine. Pretty amazing at this late date. Anyway, rather than wait for M-Audio to actually service its customers, I'm looking for a replacement. The 192 had just what I wanted, analog ins and outs to and from my preamp (Simaudio Moon P5.3). I see several USB devices that look good, and I like the idea that they are outside of the cabinet. But, I'm not techy enough to know if these USB devices actually replace the sound card or just work in conjunction with it. So if I bought, say, a TASCAM US-144, would that be the sole sound device on my computer? I'm very open to suggetsion here. Thanks in advance.
