  1. ...i have 7547 tracks. i also have downloaded a few hd files (two albums from hdtracks, along with their free demo tracks) that are not in itunes... yet. my itunes' library is a mix of alac, aac and a few mp3s... the latter being music that was and still is impossible to find and purchase... except on the old/original napster. i have been slowly re-ripping my previously ripped cds into lossless, as my ipod could be a good way to "bring my music" to hi-fi dealers. and, frankly, because it sounds better. :-) **edit** after a sync, 7563 tracks. one album had been added to itunes in the mean-time...
  2. hello -- i finally got my 2011 mac mini connected to my moon 300d dac yesterday (when i received my lifatec silflex cable) and after installing the fidelia trial, i listened to this 24/96 copy of guaraldi's "a charlie brown's christmas" from hdtracks. whilst i'm still ambivalent about purchasing music in an immaterial format, this quick listening session got me wondering how dave brubeck's "time out" would sound in high-res. it is available in download format from the itunes store... but that would be in lossy aac. further digging did not yield anything better than the 256kbps aac version sold by apple. this surprises me. is anyone working on getting "time out", huh, out in 24/96 (or better) download format?
  3. hello & Merry Christmas to all -- so, for canuck audiophiles considering one of the following usb to s/pdif converters: * musical fidelity v-link ii or v-link 192 * m2tech hiface evo * audiophilleo 2 this is what i found: * there are dealers for m-f & m2tech in the "great white north", but not for the audiophilleo. i'm listing them below. * not all dealers for m-f know about the v-link 192 (those i talked to think the v-link ii can do 192khz) * the v-link 192 is not yet available, price "up here" unknown. the dealers i have identified: musical fidelity * ottawa - the listening room (http://www.thelisteningroom.ca/) * toronto - audioexcellence (http://www.audioexcellence.ca/home/) * québec - Cora, Inc. (http://www.corahifi.com/) * edmonton - Gramophone Inc (http://www.gramophone.ca/) m2tech * montréal - filtronique (http://www.filtronique.com) * montréal - acoustic tech (http://www.acoustic-tech.com/) audiophileo * could not find any "local" dealers i hope this can be of help to others. cheers. p.s.: @Jsmith, re. the AR-T Legato: no, i have not considered this unit, as it does not do hi-def. i swapped my ead dsp-7000mk2 for a moon 300d because of hi-def music; otherwise i would have kept it.
  4. something hit me. what about itunes-purchased songs? i know they aren't drm'ed anymore, but is there some voodoo that could make the 'non-originating' pc (in my case, this forthcoming mac mini) complain in some fashion when trying to play songs purchased through another computer? one never knows with these damn computers -- 25 years in the field and i still face-palm on a regular basis. those damn things can make any rational human being superstitious! i know the files i ripped myself and those other non-itunes-purchased ones will play fine, but i wonder about those .99cent files... anyone had issues with them?
  5. o_O hold on. i'm not sure what you are saying (a clear sign i need a very overdue vacation!): are you telling me that, in your setup, there is a difference between the itunes library and the music files themselves? are you calling "the itunes library" itunes metadata for a particular machine, i.e. music files inventory, playlists, playcounts, etc.? if i understand you correctly, i could have all my music files reside on my nas, accessible to both my mac mini & my windows box, but data like the playcounts, playlists, etc. would be separate for each machine? These stats would be different for each instance if itunes, which could even list a different subset of music from the other? /* sorry if this was badly worded, but at least, i have the excuse that english is not my native language :-) */ whoa. p.s.: edited last paragraph b/c abysmal wording.
  6. hello -- it appears there might not be dealers for either musical fidelity or audiophilleo north of the border. after researching this a bit, i'm more or less down to two candidates for a usb to s/pdif converter-reclocker that i'll want to add to my hi-fi kit: the musical fidelity v-link 192 and the audiophilleo 2. even though specs/word-of-mouth is positive for these two units, i'd like to audition them before buying. any canuck haunting these forums know of stores in the ottawa - montréal - kingston "area" that carry these two brands? cheers.
  7. hello, world -- (btw, i'm just saying this must be a faq, but that my searches did not turn up anyting about it) to make a long story short, i might have to buy a mac mini (frequent flyer points about to expire, might as well use them) and i'd like to use my unraid nas to store my itunes library instead of loading up the mini's hard drive. the mac would be placed in the music room, feeding my dac via fibre optic, with amarra / pure music / whatever dishing out high-res music. up to now, there's nothing special. others have done it, surely. but here's the twist. my itunes library is currently located on a windows box. since a recent scare (mother of all bsod, a few music files got corrupted), i've been thinkering with the idea of storing all of my music on more robust storage. in this case, my unraid nas. the actual twist is that i'd like to have only one library, but shared by two different boxes: one windows, one a mac. and what i have read up until now is not encouraging. two macs or two pcs should be ok sharing a network-stored itunes library, but a mac and a pc do not look as if they would "play nice". anyone else done this? am i alone with such a crazy idea? thanks in advance.
