  1. Hi Geoff The reason why I back it up in FLAC as well as in AIIF is to make sure that I have an uncompressed copy that I can convert to any format I like later on. Currently I am using a MacBook Pro, but if/when I will switch back to windows, I have a FLAC copy of all my music so that I do not have to re-rip my entire collection. If my AIIF copy would get corrupted, I can still convert my FLAC backup to any format I like.
  2. So far, I did not have this issue ... I did however mess up my profile by clicking save current settings and overwriting my original profile. So yes, my post here acts as a backup for myself as well!
  3. I checked the XLD software and it refers to the Apple Smart Folder technique to do what you want: Create a Smart Folder In the Finder, choose File > New Smart Folder, or press Command (⌘)-Option-N. To search for files on a particular topic, type the topic in the search box. Choose the location where you want to search for files. This Mac: Searches the entire computer. All My Files: Searches the “All My Files” folder. Shared: Searches shared folders on disks and computers on your local network. This option doesn’t appear if your computer is not connected to any shared folders. You can choose whether the search should include only the names of files, or their entire contents. As you type in the search field, a menu appears. Choose the “Filename matches:” option, and then choose either Name or Everything. To search for additional specific attributes, click Add (+) below the search field. Search attribute pop-up menus appear. The menus work in pairs; for example, to search for images, you would choose Kind from the pop-up menu on the left, and then choose Images from the pop-up menu next to it. Click Save, and specify a name and location for your Smart Folder. If you do not want your Smart Folder to be in the sidebar, deselect Add To Sidebar. You can’t use certain characters, including punctuation such as a colon (, in folder names. If an error message appears, try using another name.
  4. I am glad that I'm able to help someone now on this forum as I have received a lot of support from it when I was setting up my system
  5. Not sure if that can be done in XLD, I will check if I have some time later ... Till then: there is an app for everything! A free app that will achieve this is: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/filesorter/id411279149?mt=12 and a simple set up guide can be found on: Move, Copy, Open, & Remove Files With File Sorter [Mac] Or a quick manual workaround: Sort on file extension and drag and drop Or use automater ... or ... I am sure there are many more options. I am not that often on this forum anymore, but I will check your question in XLD on a later date and let you know
  6. I had the same issue and google led me to this page RipRight: CD Ripper, Done Right I would also recommend searching the forums on this site and read from other's experiences on why they like a certain format. The format I like is documented in my screenshots.
  7. Hi Xelor No, I do not use FLAC in iTunes as it is not supported by iTunes. As you can see from my settings, I rip to both AIIF and FLAC format. I use AIIF for playback and FLAC for archiving as recommended in Ripping Strategy document published on this site: Computer Audiophile - Computer Audiophile CD Ripping Strategy and Methodology I rip to FLAC uncompressed for archiving, not for playback.
  8. Just iTunes and BitPerfect and I am happy! I have not tried anything else, but Bitperfect works well for me without having to worry about any other music player. My collection auto-syncs with an iPod and iPhone in AAC format as well, so iTunes was the logical choice. With BitPerfect installed, it has become a brainless operation to play music ... and that is what I wanted: create a setup I like and forget about it so I can just listen to the music in a setup that suits my needs, sounds great and is easy to operate.

  10. My system is complete, I am very happy with it and I do not plan any upgrades for the moment. The only thing that I am changing for the moment is the song that is playing!
  11. Depends on when I'm leaving ... this week it would be "Philadelphonic" G.Love & Special Sauce
  12. Hi Eloise I tried and failed. I downloaded the Airplayer onto my MacBook Pro, had the airplayer running but could not get the airplay icon to pop up on my iPad. It is not a big deal, and I am not willling to spend $15 on Airserver to give that a try ... If you have any ideas of what I did wrong, I will be more than happy to take and try your advise, if not, I will simply give up as it is just a "nice to have".
  13. Thanks Eloise, I will give Airplayer a try since it is free. I still have to get used to turn to apps for getting some functionality to work on the Mac platform, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  14. I was hoping that Airplay would be an option. I am new to this Apple-stuff, but since there are B&W zeppelin's to which I can stream from my iPad (info based on advertising), I would assume that there has to be a way to stream to my MacBook? Any ideas?
