  1. I would think the mini since there is no monitor to power.
  2. Thanks Dave, I will give that a try. I am not using CDParanoia mode. W4S DAC 2 arrived lastnight, a day early and a nice surprise. Huge improvement over my Denon AVR using HDMI. Also using ITAP VNC to drive the mac mini and absolutely love it. The fun factor is off the charts.
  3. Flac to ALac conversion was a breeze, CD ripping takes way too long using XLD. I like it better than Itunes but Itunes is much fast. Still trying to figutre that out.
  4. I was mistaken, it came formated as HFS+. The description from AMAZON say NTFS. I think they screwed up the order because I ordered a 1TB but the drive is a 1.5TB. I tend to over think things when I don't have it in my hands to play with. I was pleasantly surprised how well Itunes sounds. http://www.amazon.com/Fantom-GreenDrive-Firewire-Warranty-GD1000Q/dp/tech-data/B002QW0PAU/ref=de_a_smtd
  5. THANK YOU Dave and Rascal ! All is great, used XLD to copy my FLAC file to ALAC. So far about 80g worth. I will rip some CDs tomorrow. My W4S DAC 2 will be here Tuesday but for now I am using HDMI to AVR and it actually sounds pretty good to me. Really appriciate your support and patience. Thanks again, Tracy
  6. Makes me wonder if the Mac Mini I will receive today was the right choice. I thought about the CAPs but I will struggle with a PC more than MAC, I think. Could it be a synergy thing ? I have no doubt Chris is sharing his observation in honest terms and I can not personally comment on the MAC since mine is being delivered today. I know a freind at work that has a MACH2 and says it best his hot rodded OPPO if that means anything. Doubt my reply is adding much value and it is all i have to offer at the moment.
  7. SHould I reformat it to something else or leave as NTFS. The goal is get my FLAC files that are on a USB drive to my FW external drive in a format that the MAC and Itunes can play in the best possible resolution. Right now I am thinking of using DBPOWERAMP on my PC to covert the flacs to ALAC. My new external FW HDD is pre formated as NTFS. I guess the only problem is MAC can not write to an NTFS drive but can read which should be okay as I plan to do all my CD ripping on the PC. Any better solutions or problems with my approach ? I hate being such a newb.
  8. Excellent ! THank you David. MY Mini should be here today so I can do instead of having to ask.
  9. Thank you for the help and patience. XLD Would allow me to take my flac files on a USB drive and convert them to alac and copy them on a FireWire drive? Since my DAC WILL USE USB I want my music on the FireWire drive.
  10. Is there a utility on the Mac mini that would allow me to convert the flac files to alac? That maybe the best option, not sure.
  11. I have lots to learn. I thought iTunes could not play flac files. So when I connect my FireWire external drive and import into iTunes it will not down Rez my flac files?
