  1. I have my music  stored on on a external hard drive in flac,, can I play it back using an Oppo

blu ray  player with an hdmi  cable?

  2. I used to be up on all of the latest stuff and now, I have gotten old and am at a loss of what's available. I am in a quandry since I got a Cocktail Audio X40, had my music collection ripped and stored on board and given a flac external hard drive as a backup. The X40 won't boot up and I've got a custom dac and a jobs 225 amp which is all separate from my Anthem home theater set up. I want to be able to listen to music again but don't know how to proceed, in other words, how to access the hard drive, don't use a network and the drive is 100 plus giga bytes of music files from my hard drive. I am 72 and retired and what was once easy, no longer is. I need help on what to do, how to playback and control my music library from my "my passport" back up external hard drive. Please help me ????? Any help would be appreciated, I'm feeling really stupid at this point, gone are the days of playing a cd and having to get up to put them in and out of the player, Keith
  3. all of the help that I get is a blessing, most are too busy to help a total stranger but then we are not strangers since we have something in common, freinds that have not yet met? Keith
  4. I went through the supposed set up and I never got myX40 to recognize my network, have no clue why. Since all my cds were already stored I thought I could get away like it is. I am70 and have been muddling my way through the whole tech thing with a wing and a prayer. I am savvy to an extend, I have 5 Bridge routers in my house to make getting a signal from my base esier. If I would have been younger when I started things might be different. I did manage to patent a cable technology that a high end company wants to license from me because it is much better than anthing they have according to them, and they shall remain nameless at present. So laughably I have a high end system capable of extremely acurrate and detailed sound if I could only do this. If anybody close to San Francsco wanted to help me for pay or barter, I would be extremely grateful. I live in daly city and my system has to be heard to be believed, Everything I do with tech stumps me for the stupidest reasons. I could really help someone who helps me, cash or barter. One listen and you can't go back, Keith pm me or use my email to get more info. I have discovered the magic holy grail of cables, NO JOKE
  5. thank you for responding to my question, at least I have a starting point now. I am assuming If I can get flac files onto my computer them I can transfer them either to a small portable drive or a flash usb drive, one question at time, thanks for taking the time to respond, Keith
  6. I am an old dog and I've never downloaded anything but a ringtone and I have a high end audio system and a cocktail audio X40 with a lot of my cds on it. ( I paid a professional company to store them all on my X40 ) I want to find out how to down load some 24bit classical recordings via my macbook pro to place on a usb drive and then to my server. I don't use my network for anything other than home theater movie streaming, I tried to set up my X40 when I got it and failed. I am assuming that I can then insert my usb drive with downloaded files directly into into my X40 music server and listen to them or have the X40 store them. I am not technically inclined and I am hoping that this is easier than I suspect. It is not easy to find how to's for the beginner because I am below a beginner and novice, any articles or how to's would be appreciated sooooooo much, thanks, Keith
  7. btw I've got a custom dac which the x40 plugs into with the jobs225 amp powering everything. When I try to use plugplayer I get sound from my ipad only headphone jack, what am I doing wrong, so near and yet so far. Maybe the folks in silicone valley just make too much money and are not moved by empathy or money, I wish I knew why?? cocktail audio x40 suggest UPnP software I don't know if I've got it hooked up correctly and I don't really need to use my ipad mini interface because it would be easier to see and therefore use. Question is which UPnP software can I use to add to my ipad mini????
  8. I need help in the worst way and I am totally willing go pay for the time someone would invest. Besides pay, there would be eternal gratitude plus I have some skill sets that nobody else has, but I could throw in. This is driving me nuts, or maybe I've already arrived, horror on top of horror. I am almost 70 with an arthritic spine, no excuses, my mobility isn't good. I have good karma, I've saved the lives of 6 people in my life, a pretty good story on it's own I am willing to be clever with a good sense of humor. will share what I know that will help you, AND I WILL PAY YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS. GOOD DEEDS ARE NICE BUT MONEY WALKS AND BULLSHIT STILL DOES TALK, please someone help me to finish setting this up, I may be really really close and don't know it, as a matter of fact, I am convinced I am laughabliy close and hope that my new freind to be will have to point that out to me.
  9. So, I've got all my music on my Cocktail Audio X40 server, ( local company ready to play did it for me )but don't know which or how to set up the internet part, hence should I try, try, try to use the DHCP or static method, somebody please help, I've had the server for 2 months and I am scared,m(apprehensive) to do it, but I've been around these forums for years and surely some kind soul will help me. Free or for pay, take your pick I've got to get this done, thanks in advance, I am a disabled senior citizen, ( I HATED TO INCLUDE THAT, BUT IT'S TRUE) FREE OR PAY, TAKE YOUR PICK
  10. I have my new Cocktail Audio X40 server in place with a 1tb SSD drive, all my cd's have been ripped to flac and loaded with my Cocktail Audio server. There are refinements in setup that have to do and I don't have the skill set or knowledge to finish it. It works, it plays but I can't use my plugplay software on my Ipad mini so I am looking for someone in my area to help me for pay, kind of like a paid consultant. I do have a system that rivals cost no object stuff which some people would help me for free just to hear it. I know that sounds conceited but in fact, but my dac and speakers are all custom made along with my patented audio cable, which has been a life long quest. Everyone that has used my cable have become converts because it seems to have cured their audiophile itis, the sense that something in your system is wrong and must be upgraded. That has come to an end for most of my friends (audiophiles) that have given me access to some spectacular technologies because I have actually made a contribution in their cause. I am looking for an audiophile that can help me set up the 1/2 of the job I can't do. My system plays, I have access to my music but not completely in scope of what I was hoping for. I am kind of desperate for help, hate to put it that way.
  11. I've been waiting for this opportunity for several years, putting my cd collection onto a SSD drive in a rip and store device that is highly regarded. I am supplying my own hard drive, a Crucial MX200 1TB SSD drive that will fit into it's drive space. cocktailAudio The best part is there is a company in Palo Alto that will rip all my cds to the hard drive for me. I am placing the X40 next to my dac and an ethernet cable for any data I need for additional cover art etc. I am not a computer drive and had to wait till this tech came handed to me on a silver platter. I have been mulling over my options for years, starting with logitech, Bryston dacs, the Auraliti, etc. I do have a sensational custom made Dac from the MSB original company founder, his initials were MSB and it didn't stand for most significant bit. I am taking my cds down this week to be added to my hard drive without me having to do the tedious work. The interesting part is the company that is doing this for me is one of the survivors of this business "Ready To PLay" they are very friendly and their accommodation to me was carrying the boxes of cds I have upstairs for me since I am disabled. I wanted to share what I consider a good find in a device and a company ready to make your life easy. I will do an update when I'm done.

  13. i just received my X40 and it is built like a tank and I plan on have a company in palo alto, (silicon valley) rip all my cds' to my new Crucial 1TB SSD drive. It appears to be well manufactured and I will connect it directly to my proprietary dac , can't wait. It weighs in at about 20lbs not counting the hard drive
  14. I just purchased the X40 after seeing all that was out there to be had. I decided against the $9,000 naim product and just ordered a Crucial MX200 1 tb SSD drive as well. I have been dreaming about this day for a long time. Having access to my entire cd collection ( I now have a disability ) which will allow me to have what I have always wanted. It will take a time to rip all of my cd's to memory but I am ocd and it will just take time and resolve. Now if I only had the same option for my 555 dvd and blue ray collection, then I would truly become lazy. I hope the cd playback without error correction to my handmade/ I can't wait to receive my new server which will be connected directly to my Dac. custom dac.
  15. You bring up some good points, I might be better off letting sleeping dogs lay. My dac will do high resolution files but then again what I have may be as good or better now. You live in Berkeley which is close by me in Daly City. I have gotten in to some heated discussions when I mentioned I had patented a cable and I mentioned that hearing is believing and I gaver some people invitations to come over with their best reference material and have a listen but got no takers. My dac takes a standard spdif coaxial input coming from an Oppo transport.
