  1. "Ramdisk and Flashdrives are non-rotating memories. Better sound if you avoid rotating disks." Sorry if this has been covered....but are you saying that you use these ramdrives and flash drives as a temporary way of listening. As far as I know...either of these options will not be large enough for a large catalog of music...as far as I've seen. Cheers, BT
  2. I can understand your hesitation for a product to claim this. But I have called Outlaw...and the tech I spoke with assures me that the dac in the Outlaw 990 will take the stream the way it is and convert it to anolgue whether it's 16/44.1 or whatever. It also the an upsample option (for all lower resolution formats) that you can implement to create a higher fake...(my word...not theirs) bitsample. I use it once in awhile for satellite broadcasts in stereo. It sounds better than plain stereo for some broadcasts...and less likable for others. So in other words...it doesn't down sample...it just converts what you send...and you have the option to up sample if you want. Cheers, BT
  3. Thanks Chris... Well according to the tech from Outlaw he says this: I received an answer from Outlaw's Technical support. "Yes, the Model 990's USB input will support up to 96/24. Simply connect the USB output directly from your computer to the Model 990's USB input. The rest will occur automatically. For 192/24 you will need to continue to use the dedicated DAC." So this would save me having to buy a good sound card which I was thinking I would have to get if I still wanted to go the hard wire route. Cheers, BT
  4. I'm still pondering how I will set up my digital music system. My pre/pro has a USB input that will handle 96/24. I am thinking of using a comp I don't use anymore, with XP and an external HD connected and running a usb into my pre/pro. I was thinking of using a wireless keyboard & mouse from my couch to navigate around for tunes, and use my plasma for the display. Does this sound doable...or am I swimming upstream into the aligators? Cheers, BT
  5. Thanks for the link. Well I haven't made that decision yet...as I don't want to do anything yet until I get all the facts correct as to what ways are best to setup a digital media server system to play on my HT setup. I was assuming wav would be the way to go...but don't know for sure yet. Flac may be the best way from what I have read so far. I have downloaded foobar2K....but I haven't had a chance to play witn it yet. I just finished spending a fair load on some new gear...as we lost some in a fire...and the restoration company(servpro) damaged some as well. So this project is in the works...but financing will be slower. I have thought about splurging for a PS3...as I heard it will work as a music server, which in turn gets me a Blueray player and a gaming machine...though I'm not really a gamer. Other thoughts( the cheapskate in me) have been to grab one of my old comps and park it with the HT setup...use the plasma as the monitor...and run the tunes straight into the system...but with a better sound card....or get one with a digital out. Cheers, BT
  6. Since I haven't actually put together a comp music server system yet...as I am weighing everything out...one question comes to mind. When ripping with EAC....do you relabel all the songs after they are ripped into your library...or just the LP title? I noticed that EAC always lists rips without the CD text. Cheers, BT
