Hi gang, just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a professionally calibrated DSP service? (I'm in LA, but I *think* this can be done remotely?) -- I'm running Ayre Monos into Stenheim Alumine speakers -- my DAC is the MSB platinum IV, and my source is the Innuous Statement (Roon based)... I think I could (just) manage setting up a mic and doing readings, but really don't wanna try and figure out endless filters, etc... way beyond my ken... I've tried @mitchco but haven't heard back, not sure he's still offering his services? Any luddite friendly suggestions welcomed! Thanks guys, D

Great article. I will say that through my cloth ears, and my Vivid Giya 3/Ayre MX 20s/MSB Platinum DAC/Innuous Statement server -- the HD Tracks download is richer, fuller, more detailed than the Gastwirt CD... my completely unscientific back to back plays always ended with me preferring the download?? Hmm...

Hi all, I've been emailing/calling Vince at MSB about some repairs I need, with no response -- besides the obvious contact info I have for him, does anyone have an inside track? Best, David

BACKUP QUESTION: Hi all -- I have the N100, works great, but I've noticed after the last software update that I can't find the prompt to backup my Aurender's hard-drive to a portable backup hard-drive (USB in my case). There's an option to copy FROM a USB drive, but no way (that I can see) to copy the contents to a separate drive... would be nice, for peace of mind to know that my music files are safe and discrete from the Aurender, just in case... Any suggestions?? Best, David

Thanks, Chris, you may have had something to do with my choice!

Hi -- over the last few days, my Sonore server has been crossfading songs, even though the crossfade option is disabled in my LMS settings -- this happens whether I use Ipeng, Mpad, or Squeezebox -- any thoughts on how to fix this?? Best, David

Bricasti M1 Filter Settings
DavidM1108 replied to DavidM1108's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Thanks! I just got off the phone with Brian, great guy and super helpful. He too mentioned his pref for minimum zero... Do you have a link for which specific type of fuse I should try? And is there a link for the psu? Thanks again, loving the bricasti so far, only a few hours on her... -
Hello all, I'm about to take possession of a new Bricasti M1 Dac, and was wondering if there was a consensus among owners (or those who have heard it) on which settings are best. I know it's system dependent, but maybe a shortcut, as I could see spending untold hours futzing between umpteen settings. Which could be fun, except for occasionally wanting to leave the house : ) My system: Chord 1050 Amp, Sonore Music Server w/sotm USB out Aforementioned Bricasti Vivid Audio B1 speakers Clear Day Speaker cables, Sunny Cable Technology PC, Wireworld Platinum Starlight USB, Mogami AES/XLR... Thanks for any and all help! David

Thanks so much! This makes the process much less daunting.

Hi, I'm a complete noob in tech terms -- I can get around on a Mac, but never venture under the hood. I'd like to try a ZUMA built from SGM, but I can't find a practical protocol anywhere for how to actually use the thing. My equipment: Sonore Server --> Berkeley Alpha USB (usb out via AES) --> Berkeley DAC1 --> Chord 1050 Amp --> Vivid Audio B1 speakers --> various cables'n'such. The Sonore (the sound of which, I love) uses the Vortexbox GUI, which I barely understand, but have kinda made peace with. All files in FLAC. If I get the Zuma, what kind of loading of software, tweaking, etc will I need to do? I can't tell a wasapi from a wasabi pea. Would I have to re-rip all my files into a different format? Can I use my Macbook to setup/control the Zuma? Can I use my Ipad to play my files? Jriver (I understand they are coming out with a Mac version): Do I need this? What's the best way to rip files onto the Zuma? Attach a drive, I reckon, as I assume there are ports for said drive... do I need some type of fancy aftermarket power supply? it's all a bit overwhelming. Could a Mac mini give me the same sound quality for way less tech involvement? My system is resolving, and I don't wanna sacrifice that. I also don't wanna go back to school for EE just to achieve excellent/easy to use playback. Is there a simple work-flow to get me started on the Zuma? From software loading to music storage to user interface? Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks so much! I may just try this for a fun weekend project. I guess I would attach a NAS to store the files -- and then attach a disc drive for ripping? Is that right? And I would have to run parallels on my Macbook to control the server, yes?
-
Thanks! Is there a consensus on whether a Mac mini can sound as good as an optimized Zuma?

Hiya, Just wondering what exactly I would need to run the Zuma (would buy assembled from SGC), using my Ipad as the controller... I know nothing about windows -- could I access the library from my Mac? I'm having a hard time finding info on how the interfaces work. Is it computer-illiterate friendly? I love my Sonore Server sound-wise, but find it too time-consuming and fiddly for my limited ability/desire to mess about with programs. If the Zuma isn't a good fit, any idiot-proof suggestions capable of stunning sound? thanks!
