1. Okay, Windows 7 64 bit sound settings has me confused. I am getting to rip my whole cd collection and I have some basic questions. All of my music is 16 bit 44.1 HZ. Under Control Panel and Sound settings, then speaker settings then advance tab, here are my issues. It reads: Select the Bit Depth to be used when running in shared mode. The default bit rate was 24 bit at 48 Hz. Now I am not sure if this is correct since I am ripping my cds, I have changed the bit rate to 16 bit 44.1 Hz for shared mode. Also I have both boxes checked for Exclusive mode. Is this correct or should I leave it at 24 bit at 48 hz for cds that are only 16 bit 44.1 Hz? Thanks Audioguru
 2. Hi Chris,

I have read both of your articles, on which format to archive a CD in and on best ways to rip a cd. I wish you would update these two articles to provide clarification. Especially with all the improvements in the software industry.

In one article it has been suggested to use the GD3 software and a robotic station for large collections. This does not support error correction. So would you still recommend the GD3 software over DBPOWERAMP? For robotic ripping and storing of meta data.

Second part in one article it was suggested to rip a cd in AIFF format. Also would this work on a windosw PC? Then it was suggested to use FLAC. Why not just use WMA LOSSLESS for embedding meta data over FLAC or AIFF.

I like your articles they are very informative and now we have MP3 PRO, do you have any thoughts on this and which bit rate to use.

These questions are for those in storing their music and metadata for archival purposes. If storage space is not an issue the two questions still remain.
Which program would you recommend and Which format to store the files in?

Thanks
J
