  1. I like this one best "Geek Source? 28 Jun 2014 13:47 #24085 Posts:1626 Thank you received: 1798 Larry Ho's Avatar Larry Ho Moderator OFFLINE Karma: 49 Few collective answers here.... 1) Geek Source is another device. It's not just another super-power Geek Wave. 2) It could access NAS and DLNA server via WiFi. 3) It could be control directly via iPad/iPad Mini. (Android tablet support is in plan too) We will have a dedicated APP for Geek Source. (UI wise, very similar to Geek Wave's software) 4) It will need to work with Geek Pulse or Geek Wave to have analog music. 5) It's dedicated music server. With USB connector that could have unlimited storage ability via USB Hard Drive. 6) And yes, it will have AES/BUE and SPDIF output with our jitter killing circuit. Cheers, Larry Stay focused, keep shipping.... Lead Engineer/ LH Labs" The date is the thing that got me.... 28/6/14 yes 2 days ago, and with a lot of "could" s. Firedog I did say "more than likely" good to see "it's in the mail"
  2. I would still like to see the actual item, in the flesh, so to speak. The other part is the software/firmware, and how easy it is to control and/or what is used to control it. At the present we are comparing one "more than likely" theoretical product against another "when to be available. who know" product. I do agree with SuperDad's post and will add one more point to it. There should be a timeline for when the product comes to market.
  3. So your difference is not having extra devices running at the same time ie SSD, HDD etc. If you turned off virtual memory and just ran from SSD (or SD-card etc) and/or ie (every loaded to ram), would it make a difference?
  4. So what's the difference between RAMdisk and Playing from ram? The only thing I could see is that RAMdisk may use a designated part of ram whereas playing from ram is not designated, it's random, set by the memory controller.
  5. I thought the muso's/composer's were already being shafted in recording contracts.
  6. That's what you get when following twit's....... or is that twat's..?
  7. Or another hopefully reasonable question.. What are the differences between DSM 4 and DSM 5? anything improved or extras added? Ps IMO why upgrade an O/S unless there is a bug fix or feature that is needed.
  8. Not all dac chips have the ability to turn off(defeat) the hardware filters in them. So, If the software is still making a difference, (on a chip of this type), then it might be another issue yet unknown, or thought insignificant.
  9. Hi Jud That's the filter coding in the dac's you mean? but not all Dac's have filter or other bypassing. And by "Dac's" i do mean just the dac chip.
  10. An interesting thought, hardware compensated by software.. Makes you wonder, what is being compensated?
  11. Snowmonkey Soundstage ....? being that, except for live performances, most instrument/artist recordings are recorded individually then mixed by the audio engineer. I thought it would be up to the mastering of the mix is where the soundstage was generated. Very few are recorded with all playing at once. fortunately now more are ie Soundkeeper and Bluenote. Live performances would be something like "Jazz at the Pawnshop" I do have an old favorite of mine, "Dave Grusin, Mountain Dance". Recorded all one take. Unfortunately 16/44k1
  12. Snowmonkey It's been measured, compared and the general answer is that it's below human audibility. Usually followed with comments like, dog ears or bat ears, etc.
  13. "I don't need no stinking science" squad I prefer "I don't need no stinking maths" But that quote was from Nelson Pass.
  14. Hi T.A. The "(except for the Asus Xonar Essence STX PCI sound card)" should be able to process 24/192, even on XP. If you using XP's audio programs it may well be using M$'s mixer, which will reprocess everything that goes through it. And usually not for the better, that was why ASIO was developed. Within the Asus driver setting, check to see if ASIO, or others, are used. The site you linked to, is only streaming MP3's, so it's not the Asus card or your PC that has the problem, it just may need more buffering over the download/play speed. Do you use the analogue out of the Asus card? The SPDIF out can be used for an outboard Dac. Do you already have a home network setup? What model Oppo?
