  2. Most disappointing room at the show as I at least wanted to see the streamer. Once I saw the cardboard I lost even an interest in trying to peek. Sound wasn't too bad when I was in but the transitions between songs was a little jarring. They might have had it on random play and transitioning between several pieces was a little odd sounding. Don't know if that was an effect of gapless playback with random songs or just something in the software. Maybe next year!!
  3. Hopefully they will bring a working model to the NYC show in April. Basically this looks like a CD player that uses SD cards. No external control i.e. ipad or tablet. As they don't exist in the real world yet we can only comment on features not sonics. The control issue will be a big one for me. It appears that each SD card will be treated like a CD so you will be playing lists downloaded from your computer to the card. Do you have to play tracks in the order they are downloaded? or is there some way to manipulate the order? Assuming you have a 256GB (edit: just noticed that the largest capacity they mention is 32GB) card thats a big playlist to remember if you cant see the card contents via some type of remote. Assuming all their tech makes this sound great, give me a way to control this and visually see what's in the player and I would take a look at it. As for pricing, none of their other stuff is inexpensive but it's not break the bank either. Are they going to price this like an Aurender or a Squeezebox, only time will tell.
  4. Guess I just have some scars left as well as an early Betamax deck!! Now I am rethinking my digital path as the dealer who sold me the Bel Canto has made an interesting proposition for a DCS Debussy. Luckily I am going away for a couple of weeks so I will have some time to think. For all I know in a couple of year we could all be listening to XXX files that make even DSD obsolete.
  5. If you want to try out a RefLink with fiber you would be welcome to come over to my place some day. I have the RefLink going into the DAC on my Wadia via fiber. As I said earlier I have found that the fiber is better than the SPDIF BNC in the same configuration. It's not night and day but I do prefer the fiber. Looking to possibly get the 3.5 but still on the fence about whether to get a DSD compatible DAC. Still feeling a little like VHS/Betamax right now where DSD is concerned. Most of my digital is still 16/44.1 as I haven't seen the cost benefit of wholesale changing over to hi-res, that's what my turntable is for
  6. They have increased the audience tremendously so where's the harm? If the public would rather watch in a movie theater what's the issue? How is watching an opera live via video "not having and interest"? He tries to relate the radio broadcasts to going to the opera but how many people attended a live opera after listening? Probably the same number that will attend a video broadcast. Even if they play to an empty house, if they make enough to pay everyone and keep the house open what's the problem? What the Met really needs to do is lower the ticket prices so that I can bring my family. I would spend less money going to a local pro football game than I would with floor seats for the family at the Met. Had to give up my subscription as I just can't afford to pay for a family of 4. Maybe I was spoiled with seats in the middle of the floor!! Recent trips to the Met with my girls school classes for previews have been a lot of fun even though I spend some time explaining what's happening onstage. It's amazing how many I can convince to turn off the subtitles and just listen to the singers.
  7. I have had my RefLink for a week but haven't had much time to listen. In comparison to my Musical Fidelity V-Link (v1) it's definitely a step up. What surprised me was how much better the ST optical output was than the BNC. I went into the demo planning to get a uLink but the RefLink convinced me to make the jump even though it means another power cord to the mix
  8. Peter, I don't post much here but lurk quite a bit. Can't imagine that the usage guidelines would be an issue for anyone to leave as they are quite broad. As for contesting other's experiences that just falls under general conversational courtesy i.e: If XX member says XX component either sucks wind or makes them see pink elephants you have the following options: 1. If you have never heard XX component you can't comment anyway as it may be factual. 2. If you have heard XX component you can either agree and leave as is or exclaim that it suck more wind or brighter pink elephants; or 3. Disagree and say that when you heard it in your system that it did neither of those things. None of that appears to run afoul of the usage guidelines so unless you just like calling people names for posting their impressions stick around and enjoy the fun. BTW, I have heard Chris's POY the EMM Labs DAC 2X in my system. I heard no discernable difference between it and the Meitner MA-1. Makes me wonder why anyone would spend more $$ until I realize that in their system it might be the bee's knees. Beau PS I am currently taking donations so that the MA-1 can become a permanent part of my system.
  9. Haven't done anything like a comparison but the following work for me: BitPerfect is a $5 add on for iTunes. Will change the sample rate of your files on the fly automatically. I have a MF VLink and BitPerfect works up to 24/96 on it. Also for keeping your library organized etc a program called TuneUp, also available in the App Store, will clean up the songs dedup the library and try to find the correct cover art. What I am looking for is Sooloos type software that plays nice with multiple formats and storage devices and is decoupled from the restrictive hardware,
