The Internet rumors had this one pegged. Apple released an updated Airport Express that supports 802.11n. Those of you using AirTunes or thinking about testing out some wireless functionality (like me), have no excuse to hold off now. The little AE is only $99! Connect it to an external DAC and this could be a real good sounding combination considering the price. Want to bring it up a notch or two or ten? Combine the new Airport Express with one of Steve Nugent's Empirical Audio Pacecars.

Analog or Digital
Chris,
Is the output of the express analog or digital? If it's analog does that mean the express is doing the DAC and then you would have another DAC after it into your preamp or whatever output of choice. . . or are you talking about out of the usb on the express and then to the DAC?
Thanks ,
Jim

Settings
So is there a setting to switch between analog or digital? How does that actually work? That makes a pretty cool way to get your computer out of the room then. The only really at this point except for a squeezebox then?

There is no switch. It all
There is no switch. It all depends on the cable you use. A 3.5mm audio minijack for analog or optical digital sound.
Squeezebox allows you to use coax or optical, but requires the squeezebox software interface.

Very nice. Still looks like
Very nice. Still looks like I'll need the extreme if I want my external hard drive, at my base station, to send tunes to my laptop around the house.

I haven't tried it, but I suspect there is not an easy way to get it to work.
