Reference Recordings has released two additional HRx titles! Shakespeare's TEMPEST (RR-115 HRx) and Exotic Dances from the Opera (RR-71 HRx). The release of Exotic Dances provides a very unique opportunity for audiophiles. Well, the opportunity has just about come to fruition. The 16/44.1 and 24/176.4 versions of Exotic Dances are available now and there will soon be a 24/96 version available (hint, hint). This will allow everyone with a capable DAC to test for themselves the sonic differences between 16/44.1, 24/96 and 24/176.4.
Reference Recordings initially released Exotic Dances as a 16/44.1 HDCD on a physical Compact Disc. This album is still available through traditional outlets and through HDTracks online as an instant download. The 24/96 version will be available soon via a very similar process. The 24/176.4 version can be purchased directly from Reference Recordings right now. This is a really great opportunity for audiophiles to experience the differences between each resolution. I encourage everyone to give this a shot. Especially the audio skeptics :-) Testing these albums for yourself is really the only way to answer the question recently posted in the Computer Audiophile forums. Dan Lavry of Lavry Engineering suggested that anything above 70 kHz is not audible and the perfect resolution is between 60 and 70 kHz. Well, this is a fabulous opportunity see hear for yourself.
More information available directly from Reference Recordings.

exotic dances 24/96
Exotic Dances is available now from HDTracks.com in 24/96 flac. I'm downloading now and eager to hear it. I can't wait for more of the Reference Recordings to be release!
(it isn't listed under the Audiophile 96khz/24bit menu item, but if you search for Exotic Dances it will show up. Be sure you pick the right one... it will be $16 instead of $12)

I'd so like to purchase the 24/96 version but unfortunately that's not possible at present. It seems that HDtracks can't sell outside of the US.
Q: I live in a country outside of the United States. Are there territory restrictions?
A: Yes, at this time, HDtracks only serves people residing in the United States.
I talked to HDtracks about it this morning. They are working through the legal issues involved with expanding to other countries. slowly but surely it will happen.
The word on the street says there are ways around this problem for international buyers :-)

Are the RR tracks in HDTracks 96/24 or 88.2/24?
RR records in 88.2/24 and 176.4/24. They have claimed for many years that resampling affects the sound. Hence they refused to make SACDs. They also claimed that DVD-A players were not good enough and refused to make DVD-A discs. I'll be very surprised that are doing an asynchronous resample to 96/24. But they have already surprised me by starting to make SACDs.

Hi Sound Guy - I talked to
Hi Sound Guy - I talked to RR about the Exotic Dances 24/96 album and they confirmed a new digital transfer was made at 24/96. I am unsure of the other albums, especially the ones that are digital from the start.
