Genelec - What is the rave about?

by DigiPete on 01-26-2016 at 07:14 PM
OK, I'm a Genelec fanboy.
You know that if you are a regular at CA.

Do they really sound better?
Are Genelecs for everybody?
What is the secret technology?

Do they really sound better?

Genelec stands out as the best monitors for money (IMNSHO) because they just sound invisible.
But it is not magic and as any other system, they sound best when you feed a great signal and place them wisely in a treated room. Just like anything else.

Genelec GLM fault finding

I wrote this guide spurred by a fellow Genelec owner, thought it might come in handy.
Original thread on the question.

It is important to note that the Genelec 82XX / 72XX series uses two completely independent networks to communicate with the monitors:

- AES/EBU (XLR cable) that carries the music only

Confessions of a DigiPhile V

by DigiPete on 11-25-2011 at 07:45 PM
OK, so I jumped straight into the way way deeper end!

A set of Genelec 8250A’s with a monster 82kg 7271A 2 x 12” woofer was up for grabs at half price pre-owned.
I talked to the guy and set up a meet on Saturday at his office at the local film studio.

Everything seemed ok and in perfect working condition, so I got a total of 110kg of speakers including 980w of amplification and he got a bank transfer.
Fortunately I had teamed up with a moving expert friend,

Confessions of a DigiPhile IV

OK, so I jumped straight into the deep end!

I got a pair of Genelec 8260s last Wednesday.
I have a 2 weeks full refund on them, so the speakers in my living room are actually loaners.
They'll order min as soon as I say go.

My listening room is small, relatively bare and untreated -so far.
The whole building will have all outer walls replaced next year, so I'm not about to add a lot of treatment until after that.

They sounded quite
