    Yes. I am American, aren't I?

I think you guys are being too rough on Mayhem. He may have a point.

"I sounds like you ate actually doing better in the declining economy of the US.
I suppose the vastly higher purchasing power, health and education of the average Danes is triumphed by the much higher purchasing power of the top 5-10% americans."

A bit glib at best. Unless, of course, he is being ironic. Then it is just damn funny.

I think it was a bit tongue in cheek, and funny.

But he's also actually quite right about most Danes (and other residents of Scandinavian and other European countries), because they tax themselves much more than Americans, and unions are much more politically powerful. This results in "free" health care (that is, paid for by taxes rather than to private insurers or to doctors); "free" post-secondary education (again, paid in taxes rather than directly to universities); and a more even income distribution, with fewer very poor and very wealthy people, as well as higher average income (though costs are higher as well, so I'm not sure whether the higher average income actually results in "vastly higher purchasing power" than the majority of Americans). So as you might imagine, when you don't have to pay out of pocket at the time of service for health care or college, a much higher percentage of Danes takes advantage of each than is the case in the USA.

Now whether the US or some other country is overall the "best" place to live is one of those debates that will never be settled. I took Pete's comment in the same spirit as someone telling me their favorite football team is better than mine. I know which one I like better, but I can certainly have a laugh at someone tweaking me about it.
One never knows, do one? - Fats Waller
WD MyBook FW -> MacBook Pro w/SSD (Audirvana Plus) -> Mapleshade Clearlink USB (Plus version) -> Semi-customized DAC (plays DSD natively; any necessary oversampling done prior to DAC in software; for more detail see blog) -> Spectral DMC-12 & DMA-150 -> Vandersteen 2Ce. Other cabling and power strip Omega Mikro/Mapleshade. Also MIT Z-Stabilizer.

Jud, there really is no argument where the best place to live is....it is Cleveland, Ohio; great weather, fantastic sports teams, efficient and honest government, a booming economy, plenty of rich thin beautiful single women to meet, lots of clean water. The only thing missing is a plethora of brick and mortar audio stores.

Also, I would like to hear you explain how that has nothing to do with me, a red blooded american, who by the way, has a musket above his fireplace that's been in the family since the Revolutionary War and still has the marks carved into it for each British Soldier killed with it... since you seem to think that kind of stuff is important.

Whether or not you enjoy or Tolerate such 'Tweaks'.....is regretfully irrelevant as CA is an audio enthusiast's forum, not a political venue. If I wish to discuss politics, history, or world economics, I certainly don't come here for it nor should I or ANYONE be expected to tolerate it. Forums are far too impersonal a media for such significant topics.

Please, everyone.....STOP concerning yourself with this layer of context.....Pete made a comment and I expressed my disappointment. End of story. Anyone else's viewpoint is unnecessary and off topic of this thread, forum and hobby. I'm pretty sure I'm a big boy and so is Pete. We can handle this.....I promise.

Oh, I see. SO only you, our great american savior and warrior, are able to comment on things that are not precisely in line with the topic of the thread?

Again you, your Musket and 'red blood' have nothing relevant to add to this discussion. Your REPEATED attempts to engage me on the topic clearly indicate your intent....

Shame on Pete for not thinking before typing, or even burying such comments in an audio forum thread, and shame on you for pointing your finger my way, while not recognizing his inappropriate statements first. You being American as well, should also be concerned with Pete's lack of self control. Such context is completely inappropriate for CA or any other hobbyist forum. My responses while having no direct attack on Pete, was simply a reminder that I, an American found his statement offensive.

Yeah... You watch a lot of FOX news don't you?

You're the only American taking offense. The rest of us are too smart for that.

Funny, i swore you did just that a bit up the thread with your nonsense. Now, you're trying to get us all to stop pointing out how foolish you look.

Comon guys, take it down just a notch please! Both of you are right, and Pete's post was, I am sure, posted without malice, and with humor.

    Jason,
I would love to see that musket! Could you post a picture of it when you have a chance, and are feeling up to it please?

Thanks, I do apologize if I inadvertently offended some of you, but please remember that this is an international forum.

I was merely speculating how the audiophile industry and retail is affected by national differences.
I find that people are kind, helpful and means well everywhere, and I have traveled most parts of the world
I also find www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ is really great if you are interested in numbers.

He made it quite clear with his choice of username that he was here to create problems. Just put him on your ignore list, and he will just be another right wingnut flapping his gums silently.

And yet another one commenting on something that is absolutely none of his concern.....and yet I AM the one here to cause trouble? Sorry Scott, but clearly YOU chose yet again, to insult me without provocation, as did AudioDoctor.

I'm starting to wonder if this an an Audio Forum at all? I bring about what I believe to be a usefull thread addressing the dwindling retail environment of our hobby, which gets set off topic with political, inappropriate comments ( which was resolved and directly involved no one else) and yet I've received the personal attacks.

Oh...BTW....you've commented on my username twice now as an indication of my persona. That type of stereotyping is far more dangerous than any of the discussions in this thread and is PERSONALLY offensive.

Back on topic, I took an inventory of my system.

    Computer: Local
    CD transport: Local
    Universal Player: Local
    Turntable and cartridge: Local
    DAC: Direct
Integrated Amp: Internet dealer (Almost direct since there are only 2)
    Speakers: Direct
    Speaker cables: Direct
    ICs: Mixed
    Rack: Direct

None of the brands purchased from the manufacturer have a local presence. I am in the processing of changing my cabling over to all Burley wire, (except the Apogee digital connection) so that will mean the only things not purchased that way would be the sources. If I had to buy another digital player, it likely would be an Oppo purchased directly.

I have tried to support the local dealers, but they have to have what I want and when it comes to tubes, Nait 1s or 2s, and class A solid state there doesn't appear to be much.
