I think it was a bit tongue in cheek, and funny.

But he's also actually quite right about most Danes (and other residents of Scandinavian and other European countries), because they tax themselves much more than Americans, and unions are much more politically powerful. This results in "free" health care (that is, paid for by taxes rather than to private insurers or to doctors); "free" post-secondary education (again, paid in taxes rather than directly to universities); and a more even income distribution, with fewer very poor and very wealthy people, as well as higher average income (though costs are higher as well, so I'm not sure whether the higher average income actually results in "vastly higher purchasing power" than the majority of Americans). So as you might imagine, when you don't have to pay out of pocket at the time of service for health care or college, a much higher percentage of Danes takes advantage of each than is the case in the USA.

Now whether the US or some other country is overall the "best" place to live is one of those debates that will never be settled. I took Pete's comment in the same spirit as someone telling me their favorite football team is better than mine. I know which one I like better, but I can certainly have a laugh at someone tweaking me about it.

Jud, there really is no argument where the best place to live is....it is Cleveland, Ohio; great weather, fantastic sports teams, efficient and honest government, a booming economy, plenty of rich thin beautiful single women to meet, lots of clean water. The only thing missing is a plethora of brick and mortar audio stores.

My family holds a long lineage of defending this country, and others....including a certain little kingdom that of not for the bravery of soldiers from my family and other Americans, would probobly be living a not so elitist lifestyle right now. I'm starting to wonder if this an an Audio Forum at all? I bring about what I believe to be a usefull thread addressing the dwindling retail environment of our hobby, which gets set off topic with political, inappropriate comments ( which was resolved and directly involved no one else) and yet I've received the personal attacks.

Oh...BTW....you've commented on my username twice now as an indication of my persona. That type of stereotyping is far more dangerous than any of the discussions in this thread and is PERSONALLY offensive.

Computer: Local
CD transport: Local
Universal Player: Local
Turntable and cartridge: Local
DAC: Direct
Integrated Amp: Internet dealer (Almost direct since there are only 2)
Speakers: Direct
Speaker cables: Direct
ICs: Mixed
Rack: Direct

None of the brands purchased from the manufacturer have a local presence. I am in the processing of changing my cabling over to all Burley wire, (except the Apogee digital connection) so that will mean the only things not purchased that way would be the sources. If I had to buy another digital player, it likely would be an Oppo purchased directly.

I have tried to support the local dealers, but they have to have what I want and when it comes to tubes, Nait 1s or 2s, and class A solid state there doesn't appear to be much.
