Forum posting question. Some titles are bold some small print?

Anyone know why some forum titles are bold, large font and other titles are small print? I can't figure out why. Does it have to do with the way it's posted by the member?

Also, what do the different color envelopes on the left of the title signify?

    Thanks for the help.

A bold title signifies a topic you haven't read. Red envelopes indicate a 'hot' topic, ie two (?) or more replies. There's a few other symbols I haven't figured out yet, for example to show if you have replied to a topic (edit: green arrow on the envelope= topic you have replied to)

Another one: The blue down arrow to the right of a bold topic title will jump you to the last unread post in that topic. Very handy for long discussions that you are following.

That's what Chris suggested also and makes perfect sense. But, I noticed that I saw many unread posts not bold and many bold that I had read. Maybe it's just not working perfectly quite yet, or I'm just crazy. If you wouldn't mind, try clicking on a bold title, then come back to it and see if it has changed to small text. I tried this and even logged in/out, trying different things and it remained bold. The reason I'm so determined to figure it out, is that I'd like to post to the forum and naturally I'd like my post to be bold like the others.

    Thanks for the reply.

If the topic you have previously read now contains unread posts, then the title will change to bold again. For multi page topics you need to visit the last page to un-bold the title. However you need to refresh the page in your browser to see the change - the browser 'back' button usually doesn't work. Also some browsers, and possibly some Internet suppliers can be a bit temperamental when it comes to displaying updated pages, so it can get frustrating.

As to unread topics showing as not bold, I'm not sure. Sometimes I click on an interesting looking topic title, but then realise it's about cables and I should really get off the Internet and get a life (as if!), so it shows as not bold. *shrug*

Thanks so much for the info.! This is one seriously technical system we got here! So, I guess the simple answer is that it's working correctly. I thought that maybe I did something wrong when posting my title. When you post your own topic I guess it will automatically be non-bold, because you're the author?
    Thanks again!

Yeah, I learned all the arrows and the other handy symbols tonight. They're very useful. That blue down arrow you mention is one of my favorite features. All this functionality takes a little time to learn.
