Gee, did you not ask us to, and are you not the one that keeps buying something you do not really "get"?

I have a new client who architecturally designs and sets up million(s) dollar systems, who told me you don't have to spend a lot of money on cables, it's all about how they're made. He did say though, that the voltage regulators on them, are very beneficial.

In light of this information, I have no regrets and don't feel taken advantage of, in purchasing cables that cost $1000. I made my decision at the time, with the knowledge I had, and with the advice of my dealer (whom I still completely trust). The difference in sound quality blew me away, so why change it? I don't waste energy on regret. If you do, you will never be happy, so either accept or decide to make a change. No need to justify your position on the subject. You feel the way that you do, and you shouldn't need a support group if you are confident about where you stand on this issue. I don't see any of us in this thread who have purchased expensive cable trying to convince you to do the same, so why are you trying to convince us that we should feel bad (regretful, unsure, indecisive) alongside you?

I guess any audiophile discussion can ultimately be reduced to a discussion of cables

I can't even begin to post about Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode. That would certainly not be G rated. I don't think I could even keep it R rated!

I take your comment as a compliment. Hope the wives don't go snooping on here! He He.

Personally I've always found Nordost's determination to name their products after Norse mythology amusing. Appeals to my quasi religious objectivist mentality. Or something. On the wacky Scandinavian humor theme, I wonder what IKEA would call their cables, should they ever decide to wire up those rather disturbing empty AV boxes they have in their stores. "Strangel" for the entry level, maybe "Bonddage" for the more demanding audiophile IKEA shopper?

Hey, if you can come up with a suitable picture to illustrate Blue Jeans, then go for it. If we're doomed to yet another cable discussion we need all the funnies we can get, don't you think?

ps - Kaleidosoul's comment about getting off on a listening session - talk about upstaging the infamous 'danceable cables'. Way to go!

    prufrock,

"My predicament is that I am pathetic irrational being. I know the cable guys are taking me for a ride, but I always chose to purchase a cable at a price point commensurate with my income/how much I can afford to lose. In my case that figure happens to be about 3 times the required amount. I was really hoping that the 4 grand a cable guys would own up and make me feel better. Anyone out there spent a grand even? That would help."

I just thought of a story that might cheer your up. Audiogon is the complete opposite of this website. Most of the people there are completely subjective and will spend hours of debate on smallest of things. They would sooner argue about the plating process on an RCA jack than upgrading a major component.

A couple of months ago, I was in the mood for a good laugh so I started a new thread claiming to have the newest, ultimate tweek. I said that I tried putting audiophile cones under everything in my house in an attempt to dissapate any type of unwanted vibrations that might be caused by the sound from my speakers hitting them. Tables, chairs, coffee maker, microwave, telephone, the pot with my dead grandmothers remains; basically everything.

It took a couple of hours, but the responses started comming in. A little slow at first but the comments came. They bought it. People actually started putting cones under their kitchen appliances because I told them to. They even asked me what brand of cones worked the best. I bet they're still going on about it.

At least you use your $1000 stereo cables on stereo equipment and not to hang potted plants. (I hope)

You should see me dancing to Depeche Mode's In Chains (Alan Wilder remix), In Your Room (extended Zephyr mix), Dangerous (sensual mix), Strangelove, or any other hot hot hot song Dave Gahan sets his sensitive, sexy, rich and sultry vocals to. He's my own "Personal Jesus"! You'll forget all about your cables....(except one)

What a relief to know there are actually some of the fairer sex on this site. One can only take so much arguing with these cranky, hairy- eared SOBs. Your presence will also surly bring some needed rationality to this debate. I hope more of the ladies follow your lead and pop up with a comment or two.

Do we have female 'woodies' then - or are they all 'fuzzies'?

Every decent music performance needs a valkyrie...

And how many of them are fully convinced they can hear the improvement in sound quality?

You clearly have not been reading my posts, or they are going over your head. I ain't no lady! Are there any other females on here???

I think 4est was saying exactly the same as I was. I think what is needed is a younger base on CA, maybe bringing a fresh new approach. I'm probably the youngest one here. Maybe some single ones too, so we can leave the wives out of it, and maybe I'll find a date in the process. It's pretty clear from my posts that I need one (or maybe two...haven't found one that could keep up with me yet!)

    Thanks.

I guess it depends on how you define a lady. As long as you don't have hairy ears, that's good enough for me. I think your idea of turning the forum into an audio/dating combination has merit btw. Clearly far too many blokes getting off on polishing their cables around here. You might want to rethink about targeting the young ones though. Think of the benefits of a mature type: limited lifespan meaning you could inherit the gear and then be able to place it where you wanted with no argument.

I'm very happy with my system, thank you, and the "mature types" will have a hard time giving me what I really need...

    Sounds like a dream date!

Imagine: you go to pick up your date and stumble upon a room full of Ayre, SF, REl, Transparent, and computer audio w/iPad remote.

    What a great start.

Go Girl. I am with you. Greybeards don't cut the mustard. And as for the system, well, they have been told - you are happy with what you've got, and bulldust need not apply.

Not to mention being a dog or a robot/program. I think we have a couple of clones of Mark V Shaney on this board.

Well my hope of turning this thread into a support vehicle for victims of audiophilia seems to have withered on the vine. Save from Kaleidosoul rushing to my aid with some kind words (proving her gender btw), the response has been disappointing. So last call for those, like myself, who want to come forward with a tale of being taken for a sucker.

I also wish there were more female members, as they have better hearing than us males, and their HF end doesn't drop as savagely with age as ours does. I wouldn't mind betting that they could hear even more clearly the differences between cables, and that wish of yours could come back and bite you on the bum ? (grin)
