Wireworld Silver Starlight USB Cable Reviews?
Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone who has bought the new Wirewolrd Reference usb cables - silver or platinum starlight, can offer us some opinions of their performance?
I am currently using the standard starlight and I am thinking of maybe upgrading to the higher end models.
Also about to upgrade from my PS Audio Dlink III Dac with the Level IV Cullen Mod to the Wyred 4 Sound W4S DAC-2 .
Thank You.....

As far as the cable is concerned
the length for USB Class 2 Audio is critical, not to exceed 2m on its own. This is the principal criteria for selecting a USB cable to begin with. If you want a longer cable, have a search on USB extenders thread here started off by Charles Hansen.
The SQ is totally secondary in nature. I have a Starlight, red jacketed USB cable and compared the same cable with a supplied cable from the Dac manufacturer, there's a little more transparency with the starlight between the two. Not a night and day difference.
From the 6 moons review, it looks like the Wyred 4 Sound W4S DAC-2 uses proprietry drivers for USB 24/192 for both Windows and OSX. If the manufacturer goes bust, or doesn't update that driver for that particular model in the years to come, you have to use an OS and computer tied to that DAC until the DAC drops dead, which conceivably could be 15 years ++.

Hi,
I just thought I would bump this thread, as I am interested to know how the Silver and Platinum compare to the standard (red) Starlight as well.
Whilst I could never afford the Platinum, the Silver at least is in a price range that would be just affordable (and justifiable) for me if there was any improvement over the red one.

I have not heard the Silver
I have not heard the Silver or the Platinum but I use the Starlight from my iMac to the W4S DAC-2 and it was an improvement over the stock usb cable supplied with the DAC-2.

Yes, I have just gotten the
Yes, I have just gotten the red Starlight and there was a pretty dramatic improvement in the sound. I wasn't really expecing much improvement at all, but was quite surprised at how much more inviting the music is and how much more relaxing and easy it is to listen to, even on recordings that are clearly quite mediocre or even poor in quality to begin with.
So the question for me is..if the standard red one can make such a dramatic difference, even 10% of that difference more by going to the Silver model would still be worthwhile.
I used to be a bit on the fence with USB cables - whilst not agreeing with the sceptics, I did nevertheless feel that my listening skills would not be up to noticing any significant difference. Well, you dont need any listening skills to hear the difference I have heard, any more than you need art appreciation skills to tell the difference between two completely different shades of green.

I recently compared the Starlight with the Silver and Platinum, courtesy of The Cable Company. They offer a free loaner program, so I would give them a call.
Judging from my conversation with the rep at the Cable Co., my experience is rather untypical. For I greatly preferred the sound of the Starlight to its more expensive siblings. On my system (Mac Mini with SSD and Playback Designs MPD-5 with USB-X connection), the Silver and Platinum had an edge and brightness that had me running from the room. I literally cold not listen to them for more than a few minutes without pain. Needless to say, this is not what I expected to find. I was told that the latter two cables share a common design that differs from the standard Starlight. So I bought the Starlight. As they say, your mileage may vary.

I will second what JR wrote. This thread is fairly old now and last year I bought the Silver Starlight and could directly compare it with the red Starlight. They are completely different cables. The Silver Starlight is almost the complete opposite to the red starlight. The silver is extremely bright and much leaner and thinner sounding than the red. Infact it was so bright and edgy I am not sure how many systems it could be successfully integrated into. Whilst it did not have me running from the room, it was still actually a relief to go back to a $5 printer cable.
Where it did do well was on the transparency, detail, clarity and imaging sides of things. In other words, if the bright, edgy balance synergises with your system, it might actually be a great cable. But whilst I can think of any number of systems where the red would work well, I have never heard any system that could work well with the silver starlight.
I am really curious to know if the silver is out of character with the rest of the range or whether the platinum is even more bright and fierce. Not sure I want to try the experiment at around $600....
I currently have an Audioquest Coffee on order as after my Silver Starlight experience I am too scared to buy another Wireworld USB cable. And I am otherwise a huge fan of Wireworld cables. I use their reference analogue interconnects, reference SPDIF interconnects and their Electra power cables. They all sound fantastic, but it's like their reference USB cables were designed on another planet.
As a huge Wireworld fan, I am really sorry to have made this post and equally sorry that I have to use a different brand of USB cable.HP Mini 210 4004TU => JPlayMini => Chordette Gem => XCan V8 => Sennheiser PXC300

Has anyone compared the new USB 3.0 Starlight to the USB 2 version, or to any of the other WW, or have any view on it to any other USB cables they have compared it to?

I'm using the WW Starlight Platinum and am very happy with its sound; or lack thereof. Can't really say how it compares to the other WW models but it sure did put a whoopin on the Audioquest Cinnamon I was using before it (one would hope). Mine is 1.5m in length.
The only gripe I could say about the Platinum is that due to its flat profile and girth its not the most flexible piece of wire I have ever purchased. Because of its inflexibility, I should have sold my other kidney and gotten the 2m length instead.

Hi,
I've been using WW silver starlight for severac months now and do not notice the ultrabright character mentioned in some posts.
I would assume that it was due either to lack of burn in or too revealing for the test systems.
Any other WW silver starlight users around?ASUS Laptop -> Empirical Audio Off Ramp 5 -> Theta Gen VIII series 3

Good news! I currently have the Wireworld Starlight in my Den system with the Off Ramp 5. I tried the Wireworld Platinum Starlight and thought it was too "hot" in that system. It sounded great in my Main system so I bought it for it.
I have a Wireworld Silver Starlight loaner coming from the Cable Company, but am waiting for an upgraded model soon to be available. My thought is that it will split the difference between the Starlight and the Platinum and so be where I want it. Joe who I have been talking to at the Cable Company, thinks it is a good chance that the Silver Starlight will be similar to the Platinum ("Hot"), but vary in other ways - like have less sounstage, etc. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
I also tried the Audioquest Diamond in the Den system with the OR5, and it was not too hot. I may end up going with it, if the new Silver isn't the right fit.
