Issue with Cambridge Audio DacMagic
Perhaps someone might understand what's going on here. I have a Cambridge Audio DacMagic connected to my notebook (HP DV8230ca) with an S/PDIF cable (about 2 meters long). According to CA the DacMagic will support up to 96KHz using S/PDIF. I recently recorded an LP at 24/96 and I also downloaded an album from LINN Records that was encoded at 24/96. When I play both of these records from my computer the DacMagic recognizes the files at only 48KHz. Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can fix the problem? Thanks.

My guess is the interface or the player software in the HP is limiting your output to 16/48. It is probably not a problem with the DacMagic.
What software are you using to play the Linn tracks on your HP laptop?

On the notebook, check to see
On the notebook, check to see if Sound Effect Manager is set to 96Khz under the digital audio button, via control panel.

DacMAgic issue
I think you're right about the problem being the S/PDIF interface. It's set to 48KHz and I can't change it. I guess I'll need to get some kind of external S/PDIF interface like a firewire device or something like that. Thanks for helping to point me in the right direction.
