    Chicago Transit Authority at HDTracks

This is my favorite Chicago album. I am tempted to jump in and buy it but..............we know how all this has been going. This is coming out on MFSL dual disc as well but its been TBA on the Music Direct site for a year. I'll wait and hope it is all good. The Rhino CD issue's DR levels are poor.

Drat - I was just drooling over that on HD Tracks a few minutes ago. Decided to pop over here and check first. I see the smaplerate is 44100, have you tried the 24/96 or 24/192 files?

    Paul,

I think he was posting the Rhino CD version DR Value, not the HD Tracks version. Here is the HD Tracks 96/24 version:

I'm just listening now...and liking it very much! I don't have a spectrum analysis to provide, however. Perhaps that will show something else useful??? Well, I'm just getting to Questions 67 And 68 and need to do some serious listening!

    Best,
    John

I thought the CTA on MFSL was a Gold CD only and not a Hybrid SACD

It was originally supposed to be Gold CD only...when it was first announced over a year ago. Since then, they've changed it to Hybrid SACD. I have a buddy who pre-ordered it last summer and recently received notice of the change. No word yet on an actual release date...
Five (or so) in heavy rotation:

    Van Halen - Studio Albums 1978-1984 (24/192) | The Eagles - Hotel California (24/192) | Robbie Robertson - S/T (MFSL) | Tord Gustavsen - The Well (24/96) | The Beatles - Rubber Soul (24-Bit)

Sorry for the confusion. The DR levels I posted are for the Rhino CD. I also have a vinyl rip of the MFSL issue and the DR is 12. Dying to see how this one pans out.

I'm listening to the MFSL rip and it kills the Rhino CD. The mix is more back too where Rhino's is more in your face.

Hey - just so other folks don't get confused - that old MFSL you are referring to is the vinyl from the original, pre-Music Direct MOFI, not the announced but as yet unreleased MOFI. I have that vinyl, it is super good sounding.

On CD, I have no idea why anyone would get the Rhino. The Columbia Mastersound gold CD is the best CD version I have heard, actually, I was listening to it in the car this morning - fabulous sound.

Thanks! The DR says MFSL Vinyl. I should have bought the Gold Disc when I had the chance!

It's like "Groundhog Day", you you remember the movie. Anyone knows which source and mastering this are taken from?
I think I will wait for the new MFSL SACD....

There was a 1994 Columbia Legacy Gold CD of that album that sounds good to me. Here are the DR numbers on it (though I'm not really sure that DR numbers tell that much about how good an album sounds):

My response when I contacted MoFi last October:

Thank you for your email. We are hoping to release Chicago II by the end of this year however we have not received a release estimate for our sound lab for CTA.

    Great album nevertheless!
