Updated DAC List For Integer Mode Compatibility with Audivrana Plus

I know there was an older list of Integer Mode capable DACs when introduced with Pure Music but thought it might be interesting to begin one with Audivrana Plus users who have success using Integer Mode (lighting up the little green INT light in the user screen) with their DAC. I will give a start with my two experiences.

    • Bel Canto DAC 1.5
    • T+A DAC 8
MacBook Pro OS X 10.11.2 with (2) Lacie d2 Thunderbolt 3TB HDD > iTunes 12.3.1.23, Audirvana 2.2.5 (though I barely open it any more), JRiver Media Center For Mac 21.0.25, Sonos 6.0

dbPoweramp for Mac for ripping or XLD and for transcoding

Audiophilleo USB/SPDIF converter (I KNOW it's not DAC!).
Synology NAS, Mac Mini 2011 (with SSD and 16GB RAM), Lampizator L4 Gen4 PCM DAC, Concert Fidelity CF-080 LSX2 line pre-amp, SGR CX4F active speakers, Apple iPad (as remote).

Software: OS X Mavericks, Amarra Symphony 3.0 with iRC/Audirvana Plus 1.5.12/, Remoter VNC (on iPad). CAD OS X script v2.2 (to remove redundant processes).

OS X Mavericks running from SD card; 8 GB RAM disk for music files.

All connected via a snakes nest of various exotic cables! ;o)

Out if interest: do any of these DACs have their own drivers (under MacOSX) or can we just say "everything that uses the Class 1 or Class 2 USB drivers?

The QB9 is Integer/Direct compatible and does not need a driver.

That was kind of my point Freddie. I think we can say any DAC that doesn't need it's own driver (it uses one built into the OS) is compatible with Integer / Direct mode. The question is: is anything that uses its own driver (e.g. M2Tech DACs, ARC DAC 8) compatible?

I may not correctly understand and I have only run a Mac set up but I have not had to install any drivers on any DACs to run integer mode now with Audivrana Plus (and the two DACs listed) or previously running integer mode with PM on two different DACs and the Bel Canto 1.5.

    That was my suspicion mwheelerk...

Every DAC which runs without having to install drivers should (I believe) work correctly with Audivrana Plus integer mode.

Integer mode never worked for me on my M2Tech DAC. I don't think I even tried 'Direct' because Damien said it was basically the same DACs that were compatible.

If your DAC is USB 2 compliant (ie needs no driver to work at high bit rates), then it is integer/direct mode compatible.

I did ask M2Tech if they would update their DACs to use the XMOS chip (and thus become fully USB 2 compliant), and also if they would updating existing units, and I got the following reply:

    Dear Alan,
Using the Young DAC by its USB input and a proper software configuration are the conditions to attain the best result but the chipset or better the software driver of the hiFace TWO has a better support especially on the MacOSx platform.
No update is possible because it's a hardware matter but the new release will have based on this new chipset.

He seems to suggest using the HiFace 2 driver, though I cannot be sure. I haven't tried yet.

I have to correct myself. And say I did not have to install drivers to operate integer mode but I did have to do a driver install to run 24/192 on my current T+A DAC 8. I think the Bel Canto was USB 1.0 and I know the T+A was prior to driver install which brought it to operate USB 2.0.

I believe this to be the case, I couldn't use AV+ in Integer Mode with my Weiss 202 when using Firewire/internal sync. Using a Stello U3/RCA sync - no problem. So the FireWire driver appears to be the obstacle.
