    Golden Ear iPad App

I travel a bit for work by plane and use my iPad for music listening. With the size of the iTunes library, and even with 64gig storage, i don't have enough room on the iPad to sync my iTunes library at 44/16. I've recently download the app Golden Ear which enables playback of a greater range of files, including stuff at 96/24 and beyond. Sounds pretty good so far.

Now I don't expect that I'm getting any better than 44/16 out of the iPad, but it sounds pretty good so far, in fact noticeably better than the few time I have been able to play 44/16 files through the native Apple Music app. I use Shure SE215 ear buds and it all sounds quite acceptable.

I have also found that synching files via the ftp function rather than via iTunes to be a great feature and a breeze to use. So, that way I can synch a few albums at a time at 44/16 and even 96/24 and listen to these without running out of space on the iPad.

Have any others used this app and care to comment?

Capriccio is another App that does similar stuff but I have found the sound quality of Golden Ear to better than Capriccio (it has too many eq settings which to me are not aimed at fidelity of playback)

I have used it on an off on my iPhone 4, but found issues with 24 / 96 files in that the 1st second or so of a track repeats occasionally.

Trialling Capriccio at the moment on my iPad / iPhone.

I don't seem to have issues at the start of files, although I can't for the life of me figure out how to get stuff allocated to artists, albums etc. stuff just seems to play out of folders.

I too am having the same problems as Dave and have been in contact with the developer so hopefully they will soon be rectified.

I use Capriccio in Normal mode which bypasses all DSPs and it sounds fine. My only issue is a very slight delay between gapless files which doesn't bother me. Everything else has been perfect.
