    I agree with your thinking, in general. I've found it's the order that tracks are actually added to iTunes, instead of the track number per album, that sometimes throws off the playback order / gapless playback. As I use XLD (which rips / encodes with multiple threads and often adds tracks to iTunes out of order), I have seen this problem occasionally BUT . . . since I normally use Remote from my iPhone or iPad, not so much, because Remote builds a playlist dynamically to accomplish its magic

    It's only when I select directly from the iTunes library (as you suggest) that I occasionally see this issue. Sounds to me like sloppy programming in iTunes (i.e., assumption is that tracks will always be ripped and added in order - after all, that's how iTunes does it . . . ).

    Gapless playback - import order

    I did a quick experiment to quantify the impact of import order. I imported the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra's recording of Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht and Chamber Symphonies 1 & 2 (full disclosure, in case it is somehow relevant).

    First, I imported the tracks one by one in the order 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. Using the procedure outlined in my previous post, I established that the "Bogus" play sequence was the exact opposite, i.e. 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, 1, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2. Therefore, it seemed that I had to import them individually in reverse order in order to get them to play gap-less in all playlists.

    So I deleted the album and re-imported the tracks individually in reverse order (12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). So now the "Bogus" play sequence is also the correct play sequence, and I achieve gap-less playback under all conditions.

    If you can manage by playing gap-less music only from Smart playlists then you have no worries. Otherwise, you'll have to import everything one file at a time in reverse playlist order.

    @jhwalker - I am going to repeat my experiment with a Remote playlist and see if I get the same result as you.

    BitPerfect

    Hi agentsim,

    I am extremely happy with BitPerfect, no issues I care to mention and absolutely wonderful sound quality, especially after the 1.x update. The only thing I miss now is core audio plugin capabilities for room eq, which has become totally impossible to live without, and it's happily living inside both Amarra and PureMusic. This was kind of expected with the 1.x update, but no mention about it?

    Gapless playback - Remote

    @jhwalker Just a quick post to confirm that the "Bogus" play sequence does NOT affect albums played using the Remote App. Therefore clean gap-less playback is indeed achieved.

    Audio Units

    @Guarneri: I'm guessing you mean Audio Units right? I was hoping to add them to 1.0, but since 1.0 was already so delayed I elected to release it first. I fully intend to get Audio Unit support into the next major version.

    Integer mode.

    Theres been some previous talk of integer mode.
    Would some one please clear something up for me.
    Is integer mode only available with usb or does it work with s/pdif (toslink & coax)

    Integer Mode is USB only. SPDIF is inherently integer in character, but differs from USB in that it requires a clock (synch) which could be (and often is) the data stream itself.

    In the Mac, integer mode is only supported in the Snow Leopard version of OS/X. Lion does not support it. We are waiting to see if the upcoming Mountain Lion is any different, but we have no reason to believe so.

    BP and HDCD decoding on Mac with HRT Streamer II+

    Looking for clarification if BitPerfect will correctly decode HDCD-encoded rips and if so how do I do that? Can anyone confirm if HRT Streamer II+ (new oval body) can decode HDCD correctly? It has been a point of many debates if HDCD rips can be ripped and played. I own quite a few Japanese HDCD's rare pressings that I would love to rip and play. Thanks.

    As I am currently using toslink then there's nothing for me to get excited about.
    I wonder if the percieved benefits of integer mode are negated by using an async dac.

    Integer Mode is a USB-only factor, and USB is inherently asynchronous.

    @Talos2000: Integer mode is not limited to USB

    Metric Halo specifically updated the Firewire driver for its DACs to be compatible with integer mode.

    BP and HDCD decoding on Mac with HRT Streamer II+

    There is no utility for the Mac that I know of that will decode HDCD. There is a Windows utility, hdcd.exe, that will extract and decode the HDCD data in 16-bit WAV files ripped from HDCD discs. This utility writes 24-bit WAV output files with four bits of padding per sample.

    Memory Play

    Hi Guys
    Just want to ask you guys about and Memory Play
    on Bit Perfect - the higher the better??? sonically 512 mem has more air but somewhat smaller soundstage, 4 MB when selected has bigger soundstage but
    lacks life - which is the long term way to go?

    Bitperfect is failing to upsacale to 384 (my young dac's maximum) although it does
    recognize the dac but upscales only to 192 - is this normal?

    Memory Play

    I suggest setting the memory buffer to no more than half of your system RAM.

    As for upsampling, the Core Audio sample rate converter is limited to 192, but SoX converters will go to 384.

    Speedup on playback v1.0.2

    Tonight I had an issue when BP began playback on a hi-res (24/48) ALAC file. When it began play back of the file, the audio was sped up. I quit BP, played the same track in iTunes and it was fine. I re-enabled BP and played the track again. Sped up audio was heard again. I skipped forward to the next track while in shuffle mode. The next track was a standard res (16/44.1) ALAC file and now it too exhibited the playback issue.

    Is this a known bug with 1.0.2?

    That's not a known bug. My guess is BitPerfect is having trouble setting up the DAC correctly. Can you send me your console log?

    A simple workaround might be to unplug and re-plug the DAC.

    Anedio D2

    I just gotten the Anedio D2 and the BP is showing it is only up to 24bit/48.0kHz when playing a 24/192 file. However, it is capable of 192kHz.

    monophonic comment & mouse issue

    Is there any way to tell that the "monophonic" comment is being used? I.e. will it say "mono" in the "Playing" menu or something? Does it need to be the only comment or can it be mixed wit other text?

    I'm having an issue when I play a song or stop. My bluetooth mouse icon freezes on screen. This is with a 2011 Mac Mini. I have to turn the mouse off and then back on and it comes back to life in a couple of minutes. This does not happen with iTunes alone or with Audirvana. The mouse battery is at 95%.

    There is no indication that it is active, other than, obviously, the track becomes mono
    You can have other comments in the field as long as it contains 'monophonic' then it will work.

    I'm not sure what to make of the mouse issue. Are the mouse and DAC plugged into the same USB controller? You have to check this via the "System Information" program.

    Balance L/R controls would be

    Balance L/R controls would be really nice. One that will not negatively effect the sound quality. As far as I know, iTunes does not have a balance control.
