It is finally out and apparently went through some changes in the march up to freezing the design. Will be sold through the reseller channel and price is $4K as I understand it. The web site says there are three versions but doesn't elaborate. Hopefully Chris will review this product soon.
Mac Mini 5,1 [i5, 2.3 GHz, 8GB, Mountain Lion) w/ Amarra, Pure Music, Decibel, Audirvana+ and BitPerfect-> [Metric Halo LIO-8 or Benchmark DAC2 HGC] -> [direct-to-amp or via Bent Tap-X or Lightspeed Attenuator] -> [Sanders Magtech or PrimaLuna Prologue 5 or DIY Hypex NCore 400] -> [Dunlavy SC-III.A or Harbeth P3ESR]. Alternative: Mac Mini FW to Metric Halo -> NAD C 3900 DD. Alternative: Auraliti PK-90 USB / SOtM dx USB-HD. And then there's the analog source. Whew!

I would suggest a Auraliti PK100 with the Linear Power Supply option.
It is a very nice music server.

    It's also a DAC, I believe.

The PK100 has a DAC and an SPDIF output. The DAC is pretty good. You would need to spend a bit to get better in an external DAC. The linear supply isolated the system from power ground which helps a lot in reducing noise downstream and it seems to make the PK100 just sound a little better.

The L1000 is transferring to production (in other words they took it away so i can't fiddle with it any more. . .) I don't know when it will be in distribution. I hope soon.

I use Juli@ original interface (not in PK100) and I changed original tantalum caps for Elna Silmic II and sound become more pleasant and natural as before. Obviously there is some potential hidden in PK100/200 analog domain too .

I am using the Auraliti PK100 and linear power supply. SPDIF out to a Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2.
The combination has very nice sound.

Why a linear power supply for the PK90-USB (and PK100) versus a battery power supply for the dX-USB HD? Why not a linear power supply for both or a battery power supply for both? Is the sonic improvement with these optional power supplies subtle (less than 10%) or significant (greater than 20%)?

Will the Auraliti L1000 also have an optional power supply?

the linear power supply on the Auraliti PK100 is easy to plug in and forget about it.
sound quality is impressive. plug it in and your are done
sound quality is reason enough for me :>)

The Linear supply for the PK90 and the PK100 are identical and based on an existing product. The PK90 has no easy way to bring the power connections for the SoTM card out of the box. The SoTM has very good regulation and filtering. Its powered directly from the external 12V supply anyway so the only real benefit would be additional ground isolation, however they are connected together at the motherboard and interface. I'll let others comment on the improvement but I will say we would not offer it if we thought the benefits were marginal.

While a battery supply would be interesting it would be quite expensive and more of a project than we are ready to undertake right now. The L1000 is using all of the available engineering resources.

The L1000 comes with a very sophisticated external linear supply. We may need to ship it with a switching supply to some markets to meet the local energy saving requirements. The Linear supply would be a separate component for those markets to work around those limitations.
