I'm going to replace the radio in my car with a tablet PC running windows 8. My question to you guys is, which tablet would be the best in terms of audio quality? I'm still not sure how to wire this thing yet, but i plan on using the stock rockford fosgate system ( 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, sub + amp). I don't want to leave any audio quality on the table if at all possible. I'm also not sure how i'd setup the stock speakers as an audio input to the tablet.... Any suggestions??

Hello everyone; this is my first post so please forgive my ignorance!

I'm thinking of moving from RCA out (on my Asus Xonar essence card) to a digital out of some kind. I'm only interested in stereo (not surround sound) so was thinking S/PDIF or USB, but whilst I'm mostly into music I am also ripping blu-rays to the PC, potentially with their higher bandwidth audio, and I notice that hdmi audio cards do exist.

I don't fully understand what happens when these new (to me) high bandwidth multi-channel blu-ray audio tracks meet just a stereo setup.. Would there be anything to gain in using HDMI just for stereo output or would the media player optimise the playback for stereo output through S/PDIF or USB?

Cheers
Kev

I'm curious to know if people are listening to Internet radio through their main playback systems and, if so, how they are doing it. This was very simple when I used a Squeezebox years ago, but seems less so with the current setup (unless I'm missing the obvious and being dense, which is quite possible). I'd like it to go through the same Mac + Audirvana source and DAC chain I use for RBDC and hi-rez music, so that listening to a particular radio station is a simple music selection like any song, album or playlist and doesn't require manual software intervention. Alternatively, I suppose I could use a dedicated Internet radio tuner with digital output fed to the DAC, but that adds complexity I'd prefer to avoid.

Comments?

Thanks.

Pardon me if the following question is naive or dumb.

Like many my main stereo setup now coexist with my computer audio setup with various noisy electrical sources like computers, network switches, external hard drives, TV set top boxes, etc.

Is there a power transformer out there that can provide relatively clean power for multiple devices, replacing the various switched mode power bricks? I can envision a linear power supply with an octopus of power connectors hanging out of it.

Is that a doable feat? better yet, is there already an available product out there ?

"The main features are:

Four legendary performances of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony from the DG catalogue:

includes DG star conductor of the 1950's Ferenc Fricsay's first stereo recording of this work from 1958 with the Berliner Philharmoniker; Herbert von Karajan's widely acclaimed 1962 recording with the same orchestra; the widely loved and charismatic maestro Leonard Bernstein's video recording from 1979 with the Wiener Philharmoniker; and the ground-breaking 1992 recording on period instruments conducted by John Eliot Gardiner with the new Jonathan del Mar edition of the score from Bärenreiter.
watch interviews in the Insights section with eminent personalities including Gustavo Dudamel and John Eliot Gardiner
Read the story of the work written especially for this app by broadcaster David Owen Norris

The technology available to the user in this app shows how individual our greatest recordings of this iconic symphonic masterpiece are. Max Whitby, CEO of Touch Press, the company behind the critically acclaimed apps The Elements, Shakespeare's Sonnets and Leonardo, said: "It is a privilege working closely with Deutsche Grammophon to bring their legendary recordings of the Ninth Symphony to the iPad and iPhone. Together we are aiming to set a new standard for publishing classical music in interactive digital format."

The App is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone or iPod touch including two minutes of the symphony with all features enabled. The full experience is then unlocked through In-App Purchase."

I don't have an i-device. I'm very interested in reactions to this and look forward to reviews.

Good Saturday afternoon to all.

Need the opinions of experienced, knowledgable, experts.

I am strongly considering Naim V-1 DAC and NAP 100 to go along with KEF LS50. Source is ipad or Macbook for MOG and Pandora and itunes library. With that said I find I'm using MOG like 80% of the time these days. Also would want to connect Blue Ray player and cable box for downloaded movies. Has to sound good with all types of music from Vivaldi to Jay Z. I also want something that sounds good even at lower volumes and even when not in the absolute best seated postion. Sound trumps convenience.

Why Naim you may ask. I live in Alabama and NO opportunity to audition ANYTHING so I've had to go by online research and reading all I can where I can. I've settled on Naim due to solid reviews across the brand and comments in forums. Also, from my reading, Naim seems to have the sound qualities I like, dynamic, lively, strong as apposed to relaxed, laid back. Naim seems to have good reputation for solid build, strong customer support and good overall value. Plus, I like the looks.

So, my questions:
1) Am I correct in my assumptions about Naim?
2) Is this brand worth the money (seems to be much more expensive than many brands like NAD, Peachtree and Rotel) 3) Anyone have experience with the v-1 dac and NAP 100 amp ($3700)? How does that combo compare soundwise to the Unitilite ($3K)? (I realize that's a pretty specific question so I don't expect a lot of response on the one.)
4) Is this money spent on dac and amp overkill, money wise, considering speakers and source? My total budget is no more $6K including speakers and cables.

And really, audition would be very difficult....the closest Naim dealer is 4 hours away and by appointment only and they don't sell the KEF... oh and it looks like they are more of a home theater installer .... sometimes those guys don't wanna mess with "just an amp purchase"....I've run into that before a few years ago and really turned me off.

Thanks to all.

First post from a long time lurker, but I need help this time.

I built a CAPS v3 Lagoon yesterday. The build went smoothly. Installed Win8 32 bit and drivers for MB (including audio) & USB, installed JRiver. Machine boots and performs everything I've asked of it with one exception.

When I play a selection in JRiver, the software sees it and plays it to the zone I asked it to use (Player). But I'm getting no sound, which is the whole point of a Lagoon. I know CAPS can see the DAC (a Gungnir), and I'm certain the DAC knows about CAPS too, because it emits an audible click every time CAPS goes away, for a reboot as an example.

I've played around with all of the settings in JRiver, but I think I'm wasting my time there. My old music server just played out of the box to the Gungnir when I selected Player, the CAPS simply won't.

I was up all night with this issue, so I'm getting pretty frustrated and I really need some help.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Kirk

Folks:
I tried to present this in the Software forum but kept getting less-than-useful advice (e.g., "AirPlay is limited to 16/44.1"). It is probably my fault because I explained the issue in a confused manner - I tend to do that when I am confused... 8^)

Here's the issue: I have some music that I ONLY have in Hi-Res. Suppose I wanted to play one of these files over an AirPlay link to an Apple Express in the kitchen - how do I do that? Remember, I already know that AirPlay is limited to 16/44.1. Also please remember that I use AirPlay all the time with iTunes (about 9,000 tracks @ 16/44.1) to several different locations throughout the house. So the essence is: Are there any players which will convert 24/96 on the fly or do I have to convert the 24/96 files to 16/44.1 and use iTunes? NOTE: I don't like the latter solution because it adds a lot of overhead and takes additional storage space.

I use Audirvana+ v1.4.6 on my desktop and it works great. What I can't figure out is whether Audirvana can be used to do this on the fly conversion - and if so, how to actually do that (e.g., ...what settings? ...what signal path?) - or if I need another player that will do 24/96 to 16/44.1 down-conversion on the fly or if I just have to make seperate down-converted copies of all my Hi-Res files if I want to hear them anyplace except my desktop... Not sure how to do this but would prefer to avoid this strategy. Or, do I just have a distorted view of what is possible?

Thanks,
Mike
