Hi everyone,
Thank you all for putting up with my questions/comments thus far. I have a question as to what type of drive to rip with. Is a cd-rom/rw drive the best? Could I use the dvd-rom/rw drive as well with equal results? Is there going to be a difference? My internal drive on my old Win XP sony vaio desktop is sketchy, but the dvd drive is fine.... I have an external usb cd drive that i could connect....
Just wondering if I should invest in a new cd drive for the ripping process...(about 2000 cd's)
thank you,
Joshua

I think it does not matter as long as it can read the disc and perfectly extract data from the disc. The software that you use should be able to tell you whether it has extracted the data perfectly or not.. (like EAC)
Will any drive be able to extract the data?....... and thank you for the response btw....
Your response is sort of loaded, and I guess it was what I was asking, will any drive perfectly extract the data, or does it have to be some specific drive? Since this is computer audiophile land, do drives perform differently or will any drive do?
Joshua
yes, in theory (unless the cd is badly scratched or dirty laser head; which symptoms are skipping, etc.) any cd or dvd drive will be able to extract data. audio CDs are digital; just a bunch of 1 and 0 data bits so any drive in good working order with good cd extraction software would work... as for specifics, you may want to read (google) on how to accurately rip audio cd and the recommended features of cd/dvd drive; then search for reviews of cd/dvd drives. the EAC (or other cd extraction software) website typically would have some info on this too.
Thanks for your reply!!!
