Rookie w/ JRMC copy/archive questions

I've been flirting w/ switching to computer audio over the past year and am getting closer to pulling the trigger . . . but there's always one more hurdle that makes me want to stick w/ my CDP! I've decided on an Ayre QB-9 and I think I'll build something quite like Chris' CAPS for a PC including using JRMC as the software player. I (twice) read the article regarding CA ripping strategy and am puzzled and discouraged by how difficult it sounds.

For PC-based playback, Chris advises WAV files for the "working" copy and FLAC files for the archive/back-up, the latter because WAV files apparently can't include embedded metadata. But is there any reason why I can't use JRMC as the ripping, copying, and playback software? It's supposed to offer bit-perfect "secure" rips. And if I understand correctly, it can copy the libraries (including the metadata) to any drive. Provided that I stick w/ JRMC, isn't this a much simpler way to back up music including the metadata? What am I missing?

Hi BeetleMania - My article about ripping etc... is a bit over the top for most people. Under ideal conditions it works great. However, many people want greater simplicity. There is no reason you can't use JRMC for everything. I highly recommend starting out with the simplest setup possible and moving on from there. Rip some CDs however you want and see if it works for you. Hopefully Yes! You can also pick and choose bits and pieces of my ripping article and changes those bits and pieces as well. No worries.

I guess I just need to plunge in and adapt as I go. Who knows, I may not even be able to sonically distinguish WAV and FLAC, which would really make the choice easier.

>>> listening to a lot of FLAC on my PC lately

on the jriver support board and instead of getting an answer I was simply told to not bother w/ WAV as "sounds the same" . . .
