What option will offer the highest peformance. A USB converter with reclocking or an inbuilt card to output spdif? Or can i stream AES-EBU from a laptop?

ART Legato

Analog Research Technologies Legato:

Simply the best USB to S/PDIF converter out there. Does not support formats other than Redbook, however.
