Dynaudio MC 15

At the 2007 CES Dynaudio debuted the MC 15 multimedia speakers. These speakers appear to put other desktop systems to shame. I would really like to hear these connected to a laptop with an external DAC. Based on the quality of other Dynaudio products these should be on the top of every audiophile's holiday gift list.

The MC 15 is $1299 per pair and the matching multimedia subwoofer, the Dynaudio Sub 250 MC is $1000.

UPDATE The Absolute Sound January 2008 issue will feature an equipment report on these speakers.

If that's a bit rich for you, try Audioengine self powered A2's or A5's. Most excellent speakers according to a friend and customer of mine who listens with Vienna Acoustic speakers in his main music system. He's buying the A2's which use a 4" mid/bass driver.

Thanks for pointing out other choices.

This is a laid back site and we all benefit from knowing about what is out there.

The TAS issue is out and the review seems pretty positive for these. Of course, they're much better than the standard computer speakers you'd get from Logitech, Creative, etc. I've seen more than one person comment that the MC 15 is almost the same speaker as Dynaudio's BM5A studio monitor, which retails for $1000/pr. I don't think the latter come with the stands, but I could be wrong. Worth looking into, though.

Hey Jeff - I read the review as well. I think I am going to get these and connect them to my DAC1 USB. I'll wait until after CES to see if something new comes out though.

You say: "I would really like to hear these connected to a laptop with an external DAC."

If you connect the laptop to a DAC via optical cable, and the DAC to these speakers via RCA cables, which equipment does the volume control? Or do I need a preamp between the DAC and he speakers?

Dear Chris Connaker,
Hello Chris, good evening, I am Teng from MALAYSIA, I have one question for you, I am going to buy this Dynaudio MC15 Speakers for my New Apple iMac 27"" Do I need extra DAC, for this speaker? If I need one which DAC would you recommend? Thank you so much.

p/s: I love Musical Fidelity V-DAC

Best Regards
Teng

Hi Teng - These speakers have analog inputs only. Either the Mac will have to be the DAC or you will need an external DAC. If you use the iMac as your DAC you'll need a mini to RCA cable. I recommend using an external DAC. Since you really like the V-DAC you should look at that first.

Dear Chris,
Hi and Thank you for taking time to reply my mail, I appreciate your great works over here. Since the Musical Fidelity don't have Volume control, what do you think?( Is it Important ? ) or Should I use something like Music Hall' DAC 25.2 for more better result?
Thank you and God bless

Best Regards
Teng

its your choice mate, chris recommends an external dac just like everybody on this forum proberly would because of the noisey nature of a imac/pc internal dac. i proberly would get the music hall 25.2 but i wouldnt take my advice as av never heard any of them!! i heard someone say on this forum you ask 4 people a question and you will get 4 different answers!! thats 100% correct!!

It's true, and here's the second answer: the Apogee One. Is it any better? I don't know, but I like it!
