Computer Audiophile Suggested Hardware List

The Computer Audiophile Suggested Hardware list has been overhauled. Version 2.0 of the C.A.S.H. List contains expanded hardware and software recommendations geared even more toward the computer audiophile. There is no specific checklist or criteria a product must meet to be on the C.A.S.H. List. Great specs don't equal great sound or performance. However, it's clearly in everyone's best interest that these products are 100% worthy of recommendation. Like all articles here on Computer Audiophile the comments section is wide open to every reader in the world to leave an opinion. The list is continuously updated with additions and deletions to make it a great resource for CA readers to research products. The C.A.S.H. List a single data point from one of many sources of information about these and many more products.

Thanks for this. It would be great to a brief description of why they are recommended too. Especially those that have not been reviewed.

Music Vault, anyone?

I am interested in the Music Vault products, which seem to offer elegant one-box solutions to the myriad issues represented by computer audio. You don't include any of them in your CASH and I can't see where you have reviewed them. I assume that is because you don't feel they represent the highest level of musical reproduction, but I am interested in your thoughts about them. Also, given that computer audio is a relatively new and growing area, one might imagine that there will be more one-box systems to follow and it might make an interesting category in your CASH.

Please don't flame me off the site for raising this question. I am a newbie and just trying to get up to speed with computer audio. The many issues involved in setting up such a system are daunting and thus the one-box solutions have some attraction.

Thanks.

As requested above

I would also like more info for producrts lacking a full review (e.g., Apple G5 - how quiet is it? Are there certain minimum specs for achieving top flight sound? etc).

Xonar and Win 7

I have the Xonar HDAV 1.3 Slim. At the time of purchase it was the only way to bit stream Dolby True HD from my PC to my receiver. I've been happy with its performance.

I've been running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit for nearly 4 months. IMO it runs better than Vista and WASAPI is awesome. I'm really happy with it.

Xonar

Any word on when those new Xonar Essence drivers will come out? I would guess a review will shortly follow.
