Already thinking about Rocky Mountain Audio Fest

Last year was my first. It was great, but a bit overwhelming without a strategy.

So what have others done to bring their own music? Last year I burned a couple of CDs. A friend of mine whose been in the high-end audio industry for 30 years had it down: a single CD with 36 cuts which were excerpts from tracks where he was listening for specific things. And it didn't bore everyone to death if that particular cut wasn't your cup of tea for God-knows-how-long the original cut happened to be. Been there.

But what about Hi-Rez? You can't burn them onto Redbook CDs and expect to experience native resolution. Are exhibitors warm to bringing in USB sticks or disks, with the inherent possibility of bad things happening to those servers they were nice enough to bring to the Fest? I have a Mac, but I can understand anyone being suspicious of a hard disk being attached to a server where real business for the rest of the show is at risk.

Other thoughts?

Hi Clint - I bring a large USB flash drive (64GB) formatted FAT32 so it's readable and writable in Windows and Mac operating systems.

I've been thinking for awhile now about will happen when someone introduces a virus via their USB device. It won't be pretty.

"speaker eval" cd of many demo-quality songs, but the last few I've also brought along a couple of USB thumb drives with 16/44 to 24/192 songs. Good idea, Chris, to format FAT32. I think one yr I had that problem and somehow ever since have either been all MAC or somehow serendipitously formatted it correctly.

We need to have a CA get-together one night at the Marriott bar or wherever.

I know that 3 of us will be there for RMAF this year and would almost certainly be willing to meet before, after, or during the show. Not too early to plan something.

I have an office in downtown Denver and can get reasonable rooms. Faves are the drury Inn Plaza Tech Center; free chicken wings and beer. And the Hyatt Place down by the Mall.
I can get 89.00 rooms at theComfort inn downtown, but they charge 20.00 a night parking and it is a long way from the Tech Center Marriott. But the 16th Mall and LODO is walking distance.
If you people want to get together, somewhere on the 16th Street Mall is best. But there are lots of nice places either in the Tech Center or off of 470.
I enjoy juststaying in Denver and visiting RMAF. Lotsof really nice gear and interesting new products.
I have never brought music. Most exhibiters have plenty. The good rooms fill up, mostly with people wanting to hear their discs.
I like to move around and hear a lot of rooms. Then go back to the good ones. But usually end up with a group that listens in each room . They never get around the whole show.
It is a blast. It is also a sad statement on our hobby. It started out as a diy, SET, horns, vinyl, SACD, and other low cost show. The last three or four have all that plus; 110K speakers, 100k phono systems, scary electronics, cables that run close to 100k for the whole system.
Wish the Bottleheads, the Wright, Twisted Pear, and other low cost options had a larger share. Audioengine has been there last couple years, but they seem out of place.
