Squeezebox upgrades

Has anyone tried these? There is a UK firm that upgrades some capacitors and other components and claims an improvements.

The Squeezebox with an external DAC ought to sound the same as an Airport Express with the same external DAC. Does it?

And how do your rate the Airport Express route to streaming?

The two wireless devices sound pretty close. I'm not a fan of either one in my reference system, but the AE is a great convenience product.

Would a Macmini stream more accurately into an external DAC?

The Mac Mini needs a wireless device like the AE or SB to "stream" music.

The Mac Mini directly connected to an external DAC is the way to go in my opinion.

OK, poor use of language. How does the optical output of a Macmini compare in quality to the optical output of either the airport express of the Squeezebox?

The Airport Express is limited to 16bit 44khz. However, if you compared a 16bit 44khz file on both I wonder if there'd be any difference ? I think the audio quality I have with the AE is little different from the Mini - I certainly can't distinguish between them - but that's my ears and I can't compare directly now having sold the Mini.

I'm using an AE with my PC. Its outputs straight into my DAC (ADM9.1s). Sounds great but I'd like to play with some hi resolution files so I'm thinking of buying the Edirol UA-25EX. Having e-mailed Roland directly they recommend this for use with a PC; it has better audio circuitry than the older UA-66 too.
