Dac 1 Pre, wavelength brick (when will the new proton be available?)?

Which one should I choose? What are the pros and cons of each?

The Benchmark is very convenient with volume control and additional inputs, the brick maybe more refined musically?

Did I read read well that using itunes volume control is not recommended for optimum sound?

Hi bluedy - You are correct that the iTunes volume control will make the audio stream less than bit perfect if the volume is not set at 100%.
