Subs are a good idea, and could be good value for people wanting to take up the various discount offers. On that note, can you tell us which discounts are US only? For example, I think HD Tracks are limited to the US.

      I know, I'm a penny pinching Scotsman.

Great! Now I finally have to straighten out the inexplicable problem with my personal PayPal account. I want to subscribe and take advantage of some of those discounts, but we'll see how long it takes to resolve my PayPal issues. Life in the 21st century.

Hi Souptin - I worked with companies from all over the world because I wanted to make sure the global community could benefit. The short answer is -> It will depend on the content. For example I can't purchase some albums on HighResAudio because I'm out of the licensed area to which they can sell. Other than HDtracks you can likely purchase 99% of the material available at the other places. Fortunately you can browse the other sites first before subscribing :~)

Hi Warren - Ah. Let me clarify. The 100% free means no fees to buy or sell anything as opposed to many other sites. Sorry if I wasn't very clear.

I subscribed on Wednesday, July 18th, having contemplated something like this many months ago. While I did not know what fee would be required to join, the fee offered me is a fair price to pay for what CA offers previously with the added benefits, least of all the discounts as I have already made an investment in this passion also described as a "hobby". Some hobby!

I must confess that as an early adopter of the CA cap which was only offered as a mesh cap, I was somewhat taken aback as, I have never (NEVER) purchased one with mesh. The fact that CA is now offering, and in particular, Chris, is holding out for the all cloth cap, which I would have preferred in the first instance, prompts me to wonder what the reason for not offering an all cloth in the first instance. Consistent with what Chris advocates for other matters, this confession is quite confusing to me. CA and Chris are one and the same. If Chris favors one style of cap but introduces the opposite of what he prefers without notice of another edition forth coming, I am unable to understand the rationale for the introduction of a product Chris does not favor.

However, I am happy to subscribe. I am happy to be a member of CA. I am happy to share in providing and receiving information about a passion of mine that is extricably and ineffably connected to the subject of what CA is about. I hope to enjoy my new subscription/membership for a long time.

      Wishing you much success, Chris.
      Best,
      Richard

Hi Richard - As the first CA product for sale the mesh hat is a reasonably priced way for me to start offering products. To get a decent price on them I had to order 144. The same quantity in a the non-mesh hat, that is designed but not in production, would have cost me far more than I could spend. I wasn't sure if anyone was even interested in a hat. I actually like the mesh hat quite a bit. I wear it all the time. Introducing a product I don't prefer is the way I had to do it, but there was no way I would introduce a product I didn't like. I also wouldn't offer the mesh hat knowing that a non-mesh version would be available soon. I hate when manufacturers do things like this and I won't participate in that business. The non-mesh version is designed but isn't on the top of my list to get produced just yet. I would rather launch the CA shirts and sweatshirts before the non-mesh hat, but the investment is substantially more as the quality of shirt and sweatshirt are excellent.

As you know there's only so much time in the day and so much capital to work with.

Speaking of that, I wonder what WGScott has vested in this, his recent polls are looking mighty suspicious right about now...

I'm sorry to say, but something about this doesn't sit well with me. The separate forum topics for members only, in particular. That will confuse and lead to similar topics (doubles if you will), some under the members only correct heading, and others in General or wherever as before.

The only real reason I can see to subscribe is for the buy/sell function. Unfortunately, I think there will be few subscribers which will render the function fairly useless. An idea that might make buy/sell more attractive is to let anyone buy, but only subscribers sell.

Chris, I can understand that you'd like to make a little more money with this endeavor but I don't think this is the way to do it. I also don't think it will keep real riff raff out. $5 or even $50 is not a lot to pay for someone who wants to take advantage of seeming legit.

Some forums ask for donations and give some token advantages to donors. Or perhaps you could charge for the sell function only, and keep the rest as is, except that you add your new topics and accept donations.

      I know, who asked.

      -Chris

I'll probably subscribe, but like crisnee, I'm not totally convinced of the wisdom of this move. First and foremost, I think it goes against the spirit of the WWW and forums like this to shut off part of the forum discussions. This will probably make a significant part of the nuggets out of reach for non-subscribers. In the end, this may be the beginning of the end of this site--after all, the valuable discussions are what attracts new users to the site. Chris, I mean this in the most respectful way, have you discussed this model with web communication experts?

Like crisnee, I would much rather donate, get token advantages and admittance to a sell function, and then leave the discussion forum open.
